I'm part of the pipe & slippers crowd as they say being a DB9 owner, and I still like the matte black look ...okay so it's got it's time and place, and model of car...I'm 36 wouldn't consider myself an old fogie...not yet lol!

But then again I agree that this look would suit a vantage, or a DB9/DBS over a Rapide 4 door!

 

When did black stop being classy? If he doesn't over do it with wheels and selects something that will perfectly fit it, why not?

I never understood the attraction of the murdered out look, but then again, I don't have to understand it - I don't plan to apply it to my car. Driving an amorphous monochrome blob doesn't appeal to me.

I think your are confused about 'black'.

Gloss black always has and always will be classy. Matte black has never been and will never be classy.

Matte black is for wannabe 'ganstas' with oversized chrome rims (24" preferred). A matte black Rapide is the epitome of bad taste. The OP needs to send his car to West Coast Customs and let Ryan do him proper.

End of story, get that abomination off this forum.

 

Have you even seen an Aston Martin with matte black wrap or paint live or are you just judging it from the photos? You guys seriously remind me of a friend who hates any and every car with a big wing on it. Then he gets an Alpina with a factory installed wing and then its ok. I wouldn't be too fast to judge this, with some larger wheels, preferably something brushed and this will really look good no doubt about it.

 

There is a lot of "doubt about it".

Typical wheel purveyor answer for everything....just put bigger wheels on it, that'll make it work. That's because wheel guys are known as a bastion of good taste...NOT.

It's not black, it's a matte black wrap on a car. Matte black wraps on cars stopped being classy as soon as every fan-boy tuner put a matte black wrap on their cheap import. So, I'd say it's been several years.

 

Come on now guys don't be so harsh. I just see this ambivalence amongst Aston owners as being down to the clear polarization within the latest generation car owners profiles:

1. The Aston owners that love all that is pure and classic about the cars shape, the cars themselves, and their heritage....the 'more chrome the better' brigade.

2. The Aston owners that have a broader, more contempory exotic perspective.....the guys that want to extract the innate evil that's hiding within those enchanting body shapes and put it on show.....the 'I wish it went as fast as it looks' contingent.

You can probably guess where I sit, but just to be clear I'll add that more chrome is not necessarily a good thing!

A matte black Rapide deserves much harsher treatment. It should be given to Clarkson and the Boys. They'll inevitably catch it on fire...which is the fate it deserves.

Oh, but before that, let's put some 24s on it just to complete the look.
