new V12V owner; questions

Hi there, I Just picked up a new 2012 frost white V12V.
I was wondering if anyone had the oil change procedure, and the proper jacking procedure for the V12V.
I like to do my own maintenance, and on a few of my previous cars I needed to fabricate jacking pucks for the cars.
I was also wondering if anyone has done performance modifications to their V12V?
Thanks in advance!

Great car, congratulations and welcome to the forums. The jacking procedure is well outlined in the manual and yes, you need a low profile (max 4 ") and relatively lengthy (guessing about 20" off hand) jack to hit the points cleanly.

The oil change procedure I believe has been posted online (here) for the V8's and V12's but there are variations and I can't recall if the V12V specifically has been covered.

You may try to PM irish07 (AM tech in Montreal) and ask whether he can help you out.

Thanks Aston.ca! must not be very many V12V owners on here, as you are the only person to reply.
I've had a number of other vehicles (twin turbo C5 vette, Gen IV viper, SVO Cobra, SVT Cobra, numerous hopped up diesel trucks, etc.).
I've performed my own work on all of them, but this is the first foreign exotic that i have owned.
I'm hoping to keep doing all of my own maintenance & repair work.

MichaelD is infamous around these parts
I may get shot down here, but if you're new to European cars, are you changing the oil in line with the manufacturers specification?

There is a US thing about changing oil very often that we can never understand over here.

There are a few around (hope to be one myself, maybe in a few years), it's a special car. DIY maintenance is definitely doable and this forum is a great resource for it (that and Pistonheads and AMOC.org). Buying parts from UK dealers is often cheaper than local or NA suppliers (even after shipping, exchange etc.), check out HWM and Aston Bits for eg. The oil you want is Castrol TWS 10w-60 and is readily available for any BMW dealer (used for their M cars). Cheers!

Aston requires the oil to be changed at least once a year. I have a few other vehicles to drive, so I don't think I will come anywhere near the recommended mileage interval.
I typically change the oil in all my fair weather vehicles, just prior to putting it into winter storage.

Hi Aston.Ca
I noticed in my owners manual, that Aston recommends the use of Mobil1 0W40 Euro formula. It also states that 0W40 is the only approved visosity. I don't know if this was a change or not.
I typically use 0W40 Shell rotella T5 as it still contains some ZDDP, compared to most of the newer formula synthetics. My other hi-performance vehicles have either no cats or hi-flow cats, so the mi-nute amount of zinc in the rotella T5 is not an issue for me.

Congrats! I've been considering one of these for a couple of months to replace my 911 Turbo. There's not a lot of cars out there that really interest me, but the local Aston dealer has a few V12V on the lot and they look much better than the V8, never mind that you get the V12!

It's not just you, a lot of guys over here like me wonder about it too. Too many people in the US have the old rule of change it every 3000 miles stuck in their heads and haven't evolved their thinking with the times. They don't realize with the new synthetics and the huge oil capacity of many high performance engines you can easily go 7-8k or more without any trouble, and 10k+ if you aren't tracking the car or driving really aggressively.

Every single manufacturer of every single vehicle on the planet recommends oil changes at least once a year. (ok I admit this doesn't apply to diesels and there are some other exceptions... ) You need to do that because of the water that finds its way into oil over time via condensation, the breakdown of the additives over time, and the buildup of acids that corrode your rings, sleeves, etc.

D'oh! Right you are. Forgot about the different requirements for the V12s. Is that oil readily available in NA? The manual recommendation (Castrol product) for the V8's is not available here but TWS is the generally accepted alternative.

I haven't had any trouble getting the Mobil1 0W40 in the past (Napa or Auto Parts Plus in Canada), and if it is difficult to find the Castrol 5W40 Euro blend full synthetic meets the same specification.
