Chrome Pealing on wheels
Chrome Pealing on wheels
Any one have issues with the chrome pealing on their Aston (mine is a 05)? I know some Ford cars of this era had some issues with chrome pealing as well and it ended up being a supplier issue. Ford happily replaced this as a good faith to customers. I'm guessing Ford used the same supplier for the Aston wheels to save money.. Curious if anyone has had theirs replaced?
My oem wheels are not chrome, but rather the matte finish standard on most 08 and older models. I had the same issue, the powder coating began peeling a few months ago. The AM dealer repaired it for a nominal fee in conjunction with my warranty. 50 bucks?? They essentially re coated the wheel.
Replating chrome wheels properly is a very tedious process, and few people know how to do it right.
I've restored a number of muscle cars, and am currently doing a frame off restoration on a 1965 Buick Riviera. I have used these guys, and they have turned awesome results. As a matter of fact, I just sent them a set of wheels to rechrome this past week.

His car is a DB9, not a Vantage.

Replating a chrome wheel is very difficult if not impossible, so just buy another off E-bay.
I don't think Aston has ever over offered chrome wheels on DB9 (or any of their cars for that matter) .... they may have been chromed aftermarket past purchase of the car, if so and the job wasn't done right they will peel perhaps just have them stripped down and re-chromed, or better yet painted with clearcoat and back to factory original specification. Then again I'm not a big fan of chrome myself...to much bling, stand out too much and look too flashy.
^^^ take some nice pics of your DB9 with the chrome wheels lets have a look, who knows maybe you could be onto something...? I've never liked Chrome wheels on anything I've always thought they're too blingy and loud/shiney but maybe they work on some cars...
^^^ Very nice color, I really like Slate blue it was one of the options I liked about my car, the color really stood out as classy and gorgeous. I haven't seen it on any other cars in my area or any other DB9s that I'd seen, or DBS for that matter. I think it might be an optional color, it worked perfectly with the inside combo - mine has obsideon black hides, arctic blue carpets, Taylors gray headliner with piano black veneer, and deviated blue stitching.
