I blame the weather... ideas?
I moved from Georgia to northern Virginia about 6 weeks ago and it's a wee bit colder up here. Since then, I've noticed a couple changes to my '07 V8V:
1) The struts that hold the doors and rear hatch open don't work very well and really don't hold the doors or hatch open for very long. I learned the hatch is particularly bad when it fell on my head while loading something into the trunk.
I'm guessing I'll have to have the door and hatch struts replaced, although it's odd that a change in climate can have such an effect on a sealed part that's only 6 years old.
2) The e-brake squeak is much, much worse and occurs much more often.
Does anyone know if there's a real, permanent solution for the e-brake squeak? Sorry if it's been posted and I missed it.
3) My speakers are cutting out, but only one side at a time. This doesn't seem to be weather-related, as it started in Georgia. Apparently this is "common with Aston Martins and BMWs" (according to the service person I talked to), and supposedly it's because of a bad connection in the ignition switch. The sound comes back to whichever side is missing when I give the car a healthy dose of throttle (yes, I think it's a great excuse, too). It's the Premium Audio, in case that matters.
So... what's up with my speakers???

I live in Alberta Canada, and I find that older pressurized gas struts typically are weaker in cold weather due to the thermal contraction of the pressurized gas. The same thing happens to vessels that we pressurize using nitrogen or CO2; the pressure decreases in colder temperatures.

If they use salt on your roads, the metallic e-brake pads can develop a light film of rust. If you apply light pressure with your e-brake handle at low speed, this will help to clean off the light film of rust and get rid of the squeak.

Try manually jiggling the individual speaker wires one at a time to see if you an mimic the sound loss.
I hope this is helpful!

It sounds more like a bad speaker wire connection somewhere. If it were ignition switch related, the entire stereo (stereo lights, stereo power, as well as other ignition switch activated components) would cut-out.
