2007 Vantage-Should I sell, or keep it?
2007 Vantage-Should I sell, or keep it?
I'm the kind of person who has a tendency to keep my cars a long time. When I find something I really like, that's pretty much it when it comes to cars. I'm in my mid 50's and I've owned my 1966 Corvette convertible, 327 engine, for about 30 years, and its still in excellent condition. My daily driver is a 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser, which after 12 years is also in excellent condition and well maintained.....well you get the point.
About two years ago I bought my 07 Vantage, Titanium Silver, 6-speed manual, Aston extended warranty, 17K on the clock, and now has about 25K. I have not had a single problem with this car, and it looks and runs flawlessly. This past winter, I was so busy working and dealing with family issues, that the Aston saw more down time in the garage than I care for it to have. Our typical inclement weather here in the midwest didn't help either. At the end of February, we had a beautiful sunny weekend, with the temperature in the 50's, and I drove the Vantage on a 200 mile trip and it made me remember why I loved driving it so much.
Every time I have a passing thought about selling it, I walk into my garage, and that thought immediately goes away when I look at how beautiful the car is.
I realize the car is getting older, and probably isn't worth a whole lot relatively speaking. I take very good care of the Aston, and I drive it the way it's supposed to be driven, but I don't abuse it. Chances are, this car will probably serve me well for many years to come as I always perform the necessary maintenence, and take the necessary steps to keep it running well.
Are there any members of this forum who have kept these cars for a long time, and if so, what experiences have you had? Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

First off, with all that emotion tied up in you Aston--KEEP IT! I think it's the most beautiful car ever designed IMHO. I'm sure it will serve you well, and it sound like every time you drive it you get a Perma-Grin. You're certainly too young to be selling it--and what else could you ever buy that would create such emotion?
I was in a similar position. I don't believe the Aston will be appreciating significantly anytime soon. IMO it is sell or trade now or keep forever. When a car is at the top of it's game, sorted with 25k miles, like yours, there is only one direction for it to go. I suggest a new one. However, having one created and built under Ford's tenure is interesting. Is the vette always going to be a keeper?
Sounds like the vette is family. Having owned and driven many cars, there is definitely a definable difference with an AM. I am not sure exactly what that difference is, but, as you are aware, there is something (perhaps the synergy of many) that makes them real special. It's like someone said "if it were about practicality we would all be driving VW golfs". Magnify the problem. Imagine it gone; would you feel the same if you donated the car? If yes than.... you get the idea.
If you sold it, what problem would you be solving? With the Vette being the 'baby', I would sell the Aston if I wasn't driving it and put he money to good use, or buy a car you will drive.
I just sold my R8 and contemplated selling the Aston. But he Aston was the one that was my 'baby'. Truth is the Aston should go as I don't drive it enough. But I love it.

If you need the money or the space, or are itching for something else, I'd sell it. Otherwise I'd keep it. That you don't drive it all that much is not necessarily a reason to sell.
