Question ethanol and its effects on our cars?

I had a conversation last week with a guy who was working on my Denali. He said he attended a class recently where he learned that fuel with ethanol deteriorates VERY quickly. In fact, they do not add the ethanol until to the fuel UNTIL it gets to the local distribution center b/c if they added it at the refinery the fuel would only be good for about a month when it actually gets to your local gas station. As it is, when the add the ethanol at the distribution center, the life of the gas is only 2 months! When gas sits for longer than the 2 months, it starts to gum up the fuel system......

I'd love to know thoughts of those who know more about this then me. Is there any additives that can be added to counter act the ethanol? Does fuel stabilizer do this? Octane boost? Other?

I'm lucky I can still buy gas without ethanol -- it's 94 octane (higher than necessary for the V12) and it's expensive, but the more I hear about ethanol the more convinced I am that it's worth it.

An older mechanic I know well and trust, said that ethanol is hard on the cats. He recommends dry gas every other fill up.

from what i've heard: ethanol burns hotter (more strain on your cooling system) and puts out less energy (worse fuel efficiency). it also degrades the rubber in the fuel system. in order to run E85, for example, the rubber lines, o-rings, etc, have to be changed out for something that is made to hold ethanol (in addition to the obvious stuff, like tuning for the different fuel).

here's a website that lists gas stations with ethanol-free gas:
http://pure-gas.org/

and says this:
Many cars, motorcycles, boats, aircraft and tools have engines that run worse, or have parts that deteriorate, when run on gasoline that contains ethanol. In addition, ethanol leaves residue on valves and other parts that can hinder performance.

Sorry LR, my statement was confusing. The more I hear about ethanol, the worse it sounds. That's why I'm OK with paying a significant premium for zero ethanol gas.
