In the video at 3:56. That is not the right part of the Salt Flats to be racing on. I don't think they went far enough west to the actual strip that they run on. It's not all dusty and sand filled as seen in the video. It's all white, very hard surface with no dust flying about. Also there would be some amount of salt build up just behind the wheels and on the sides as the salt is actually slightly moist and builds on the cars. If he was on the real part of the flats where they race a 180 mph would not have been at all difficult to reach.

If it is as you say, I can only imagine that it was done for entertainment value and not due to sheer ignorance since Justin (and his dad) have more automotive street-cred than most people on the planet.
