V8 Vantage sports seats?

Are we allowed to order the V8 Vantage sports seats? I know in the states we get the nanny state airbag ones. Drop 30 pounds a seat is a lot after all.

I hear they cost over $10K so it might be an expensive weight savings, even it is is possible to get them.

DANG that is a bit over priced. My Recaro's cost me 1600 for everything. Might just have to go with those possibly.

Heading to the dealer next weekend to test fit even if I fit in the car LOL. This all could be a for nothing if I do not fit.

The standard seats are called sports seats
I think you are asking about the CF lightweight seats like these?

They were a £3.5k option on my car, I looked at fitting them on my previous car and the came in at £11.5k
You could retrim a pair of Recaro pole positions?

Yes those seats. Only issue is if I fit in those. I had to get Recaro Profi Xl's for me to fit in those. No way to test as we get the hinged ones.

Is that what the OEM seats are based on? They're Pole Positions beneath the leather?

Based on the looks I would agree they are Pole Potions.

Same as with the CSL, they want 10K to send them to the US. No thanks,.

Let me see how the stock US seats work / feel. Then I will see about cutting more weight if I fit and buy the car

Does anyone know if the Recaro Pole positions were a direct fit or whether they need some extra seat tracks?

Looks like they're on a different mount. Look between the e-brake and the seat bottom.

Also, this is what the standard Pole Position looks like (this was mine, in my STi that I used to have). Notice how deep the seat and back are on the standard Pole Position seat compared to the AM-spec version.

AM receives the seats from Recaro with frame and padding, but without leather. The leather is done in-house in Gaydon.

You can easily get a Pole Position, take off the fabric, and do custom padding, which a lot of people do anyway because you can make it to your preferences out of memory foam. This not only tailors the seat to your comfort level, but also to your driving position, since it's a fixed seat. The leather work is the hard part, especially getting it to match the factory AM interior.

Is there any way to find out the measurements... short of removing the seat and getting the measuring tape out?

I may ask Aston Martin Racing in the UK. They put sports seats in their cars...

Looking at it a bit closer, it looks like the mounting holes are the same for the AM-spec as they are for the standard seat. So the mounting brackets are easy to get. The ones in my pic are the aluminum mounts. They also have steel but those are much heavier. Modifying the mounting brackets is easy. I did it in my garage with a hand-held drill in 5 minutes

Recaro or AM *should* have the base, which is key part to making it fit in the car. The base is what bolts to the floor and is shaped accordingly (it usually isn't simple or flat!). Everything else should be standard Recaro.

Interesting... I think they only weigh 9kg each !

Seeing they raided the Ford parts bin for the car I would hazard a guess that possibly some Ford Racing seats could fit as well. You could replace the sponge with memory foam to suit your taste and cover in leather... although it wont be the same quality leather as Aston.

The lightweight seats are pretty narrow at the shoulders, but have a bit of space round the hips. And, despite not having much conventional adjustment, they are very comfortable.

In the Vantage, they are fitted with a motorised base and the standard electric adjuster is used, but a bit limited, i.e. if you move the backrest back, the front of the seat rises, similarly, adjust the seat base, it moves the backrest, they only really needed the seat base adjuster, but then it wouldn't have looked good.

If you wanted to fit standard CF recaros, you'd probably do the weight saving right and lose the adjusting motors too, then your only problem is any warnings about seat airbags being missing.

Have to ask though, if you needed the Xtra Large recaros previously, then isn't there an easier way to lose 60lbs from the car/driver combination
