V12V vs DBS
Yep, push the "READ" button.
Wish there was a way to reprogram the car to default to track mode, or reprogram the TC button to activate without having to hold it for a full 3 seconds. I think they can reserve this long delay for when you're completely turning the electronic aids off (in which case you better know what you're doing).
Ooooh....you're not going to make any friends here comparing a Vantage to a Boxster!
Cayman is exactly the same as a Boxster, just one's a 'vert the other a couple, just a data point. Identical cars all the way around.

Except more powerful, just as a V12V is a more powerful V8V
Just as the 911 Turbo is a more powerful/expensive version of a regular 911, the DBS is a more powerful/expensive version of the DB9. And the Cayman is just a more powerful coupe version of the Boxster similar to the idea that a V12V is more powerful V8V. I figured 3 car models was enough to make the analogy.
Okay, now you're just stirring the pot . . . and the analogy doesn't work except in terms of purchase price.
Why? Because price when new determines the car's position in a manufacturer's lineup, not necessarily all out performance. And 'performance' for many can be defined to also include other aspects of a car such as the interior, styling, construction, etc.
So, if you want the 'best' Aston it is the DBS.
That's
........but arguable.......XJRS owner is very correct on both points, however. Size, luxury, stability, image......those make the car for me......The whole package.....V12V?, Good track car, I guess...........but not for me....

Ummm....the current Porsche Hierarchy of their sports cars.
* 918 Spyder (that's the One-77 of the AM world) Available now for pre-order.
* GT2
* Porsche Turbo / S models
* GT3
* 911 (Carrera), Standard and S
* Boxster / Cayman, Standard and S
Your Vanquish would be the GT2
Your DBS would be the Turbo S
Your DB9 would be the standard Porsche Turbo
Your V12 Vantage would be the GT3
Your V8 Vantage would be the 911 S
nothing from AM crosses over to Boxster/Cayman*
* 987 series had identical power, on the new ones the Cayman has 10 HP more than the Boxster.

Again, the Porsche analogy really only works in terms of cost. First, the three Porsches are clearly all in the same category of vehicle: sports car. While the V8V and the V12V can be said to be in the same category (sports car or sports cars/GT), the DBS is more firmly in the GT category, which makes it difficult to rank the three cars together like the Porsche cars. A better analogy between the DBS and the Vantages may be the M5 and the M3.
Furthermore, the Porsche cars increase in both power output and performance with each increase in cost. The DBS and the V12V have the exact same power/torque output and similar performance (although I believe the V12V would be faster on the same track under the same conditions when driven by the same driver).

Ahem...not on Top Gear's track driven by The Stig.
Yeah, I saw the times a while back but the DBS was just so much faster that it doesn't make sense to me. Even if the DBS were the faster car, it shouldn't be that much faster as the TG lap board says. Not sure if the cars were in fact driven by the same Stig or in similar conditions. By the way, the test of the V12V was never shown on TV. The review of the V12V was the "wonderful, wonderful, wonderful" episode that ends with Clarkson driving the car off into the distance and lamenting the end of V12 cars. Glad he was wrong about that, at least for now.
