Behind the Scenes on a Velocity Titanium Exhaust

A special project we are working on for a special customer! I have posted before about our ability to provide fully bespoke manufacturing services. Some of our customers have special ordered their own custom-specified exhaust system, tailored to their precise needs.

The system shown here is being manufactured in Titanium, for maximum weight savings. You can see from the first image, a cutaway of the OEM exhaust, the level of complexity of our design, and the engineering and workmanship that goes into it.

In this case, the customer had a very specific design brief. The car is already fitted with our 200 cell motorsport catalysts. While the owner enjoys the additional power output, he wants the exhaust to sound as close as possible to the OEM setup before the catalysts were added. You can see from the fabrication photos that we are utilizing a very unique construction, using 6 chambers on valve-closed operation to produce a higher level of silencing. On valve-open, the silencing level is increased over the OEM setup as well, albeit with a more straight-through gas pathway.

Drop me a line if you're considering a project, and you want to discuss our bespoke options.

Looking forward to a video when this is installed, and possibly a before/after dB measurement?

I'll do my best. This is going on a V8 Vantage so won't be directly comparable to the V12, but we should see what kind of reduction is possible.

Very interesting since the increased noise with the Cats is my main concern with adding them.

Do you expect to be able to maintain "sport" exhaust power levels, or does the muffling have to cost a bit of power?

I think that the increased noise can be mitigated very nicely and without costing much in terms of performance. Interestingly, we produced a design previously which had some internal differences to this one. However, due to the chambering it actually gained low end torque when the valves were closed. There was some HP loss at higher RPMs (over 3800RPM) but we are redesigning the system as per the attached photos. You can see that the 'valve open' is funamentally a 'straight through' gas pathway. There is a decent amount of perf, far more than the OEM has on valve open, but this doesn't really reduce power output by very much. Basically, the chambered style produces more low end torque, but at the expense of top end HP, and the straight through setup vice versa. So by creating both we should be able to see an increase in low end torque, and roughly the same top end HP. If there is a loss it should be minimal, but TBH, in a road car I would trade 2HP at 7300RPM for 10 ft/lbs at 3000RPM all day long.

We can also do this setup in 304 grade stainless.

Yeah, for those who actually drive sports cars on the road instead of just reading about them, this is a no brainer (track days excluded).
