There is a lot of interaction between Gallardos and Vantages for sure. I have had a V8 Vantage and I currently run a V12 Vantage. I still lust over a Balboni Gallardo.

I have also owned an R8 V10 at the same time as my V12 Vantage. The R8 had was by far the more capable car, but it was far less of an experience. At the limit, amazing, but around town, too tame. Too compromised for people who golf. I'm sure others will love it for that, especially if you want a daily driver. I ended up daily driving the Aston and taking the R8 out when it rained etc.

The Galardo likely addresses that, it's mostly about the experience. Like the Aston, its a ROAD car that makes driving exciting. Both of these cars have been created to make you FEEL something, though clearly different things. And of course both are now OLD SCHOOL versions of road cars.

As far as Lambo vs Ferrari, one is a road car made to look like a race car. The other is a road car made by a company with a real race heritage. But go to a track day or a car meet and it's the Lambo guys that out number Ferrari drivers. Lambo owners are drivers. Their cars generally have higher mileage too.

Buy one now, buy the other later.

Lots of things. Basically once I drove the Scud there was no car on the market that could pull me away.
  • The F1 Superfast is amazing. It's the best flappy paddle I have driven. It's exhilarating, snaps your neck, and still feels visceral like a gearbox should. It's not like the 12C or 911 where the double clutch is like an automatic and has no life. The Gallardo's transmission is decent but doesn't compare.
  • It's raw. No floor mats, everything inside is carbon fibre and alcantara. I feel like I'm in a real sports car. I can even see the welds in the frame and it's cool to me.
  • The exhaust sound is the best V8 Ferrari sound IMO. Lambos sound great but the Scud is better. This is the 12C's weakest point. The exhaust sound just isn't there. Aston is a totally different sound, so you can't compare.
  • The drive is hair raising and inspiring. The car has plenty of power and you can easily feel and control the backend on corner exit. If you want to break it loose, you can easily and trust it will come around.
  • It's comfortable and my wife feels it drivers better than any of my previous exotics. The car drives very well when cruising around town. The transmission isn't jerky, the seats are comfortable, and the suspension isn't so tight that your teeth chatter. The Vantages I've owned were worse but the DBS drove better for comparison.
It's a blast to drive to say the least

Scud and Gallardo are not equally priced, correct.

Once again great review. This is why I go on these forums to read such things. I agree the SCUD was the most visceral, raw and exciting car I have driven on a track. Did not experience on the road though. Interesting to hear that you and the wife consider it to be comfortable and have a nice ride. To be honest, I keep going back and fourth between getting the 458, SCUD or MP4. The latest choice is on the MP4, but I am not 100%, and that is why I have not made the move on any of them yet. Got to be sure.

Scuds are going for 180 to 200k slightly used and 09+ gallardo's are going for 140 to 200k depending on miles and year.

I feel the 458 market is still bloated. The wholesale market is finally dropping but used prices have barely dropped from purchase price and I feel the Speciale will cause the 458 to drop in 1-2 years. I might get a 458 next but I'm waiting for their prices to drop below 200k. I'm also #4 for a GT3 and #1 for a GT3RS so I have plenty of opportunity to play around before the prices get to what I consider reasonable levels.

I forgot to mention that one of the other motivators for buying a Scud over 12C or Gallardo is resale value. The Scud market has been holding solid for 1-2 years so I feel my loss will be relatively low when I go to sell. The Speciale will be a lot more expensive so I don't think it will cause a hit on the Scud market. If I'm lucky, the Scud will go up in price like the CS did but I'm not betting on it .
