Piston assy - grade 1, 2, 3

Hi everybody,

What is the difference between piston grade 1,2 or 3 for a V8 vantage 4.3 L ?
I think it is the diameter ?
But what are the real diameters for :
  • Grade 1 ?
  • Grade 2 ?
  • Grade 3 ?
Thanks !

It's the size of the piston, I don't remember the actually dimensions. I know 4.3L has grades 1,2,3 and 4.7L just has grade 1..

If your enlarging the bore, these Grades 1,2,3 will not be the solution..there's not a large enough difference in size..

Top of the piston is marked the grade number..

I've only ever seen grade 2 in 4.3L's..never accessed a 4.7L "yet"..but the 4.7L pistons are larger and differant than the grades 1,2,3 of the 4.3L

Thank you Irish07, it is of what I thought !
Do you have the values of the corresponding diameters to the grades ?
So the liner is in steel or cast iron ?
It can't be in nickasyl isn't it ?

I don't have the exact dimensions for the grades..I know there 89.xxx mm, the grades are the .xxx, the stroke is set at 86mm..so 89 bore x 86 strokes gives the 4.28L which Aston rounds to 4.3L

The liners are cast iron, the blcok is cast aluminum ..be advised Jag pistons do not fit, only carried over parts for the 4.3L from Jag is the front timing chain drive, cam covers, tappets, block casting(all internal spec and sizes are different..etc: bore's, passage ways, machining)..

Hope this helps..
