Having just bought a car, I researched what dealers make on the cars they sell. The consensus was that dealers don't make all that much on new cars ($5k on average, which includes a lot of less expensive cars). Apparently, they do a lot better on used cars. Of course, they also make money on servicing cars.

No AM margins are less than most other exotics, but 5k isn't a realistic number the real number is closer to the 15k~ (or about 9-11%) depending on the spec of the car. At 5k they would be out of business.

Uh, they almost are out if business.

Again, the $5k number was an average. Obviously, many more less expensive cars are sold than expensive exotics and the money they make is proportional to the cost of the car.

5k on average would mean cars are being sold at under 5k sometimes and that is never happening. No exotic manufacturer is making under 3% that's impossible if that was the case Aston wouldn't have a dealer in that area.

You aren't reading my posts. I'm not talking specifically about exotics. I'm talking about the car market as a whole. There must be hundreds of normal cars sold for every exotic.

I wonder how Aston NA worked out the Virage sales reimbursement. I remember AM of DC offering the Virage at 40k under sticker which has to be well below what they paid.

Why would you bring that up when the poster asked about Aston's Profit margins? Mass produced econoboxs have zero correlation to limited number production cars and the profit margins are not even remotely the same, nor are the dealer networks or the dealer programs/rebates.

"The Pickle in the Barrel!!"

Hi All-

Just wanted to return to this and inform everyone that the order has gone in for a 2014 Vantage V8S.

Thanks to all who responded.

I finally went with a 6 Speed Manual. (Darn the knees!!! lol)

I worked with Mehdi at Aston Martin Washington, DC. He is to be commended for his patience with me. At one point, we got into a heated debate/discussion/argument, or you fill it in. Well, let's say I got a bit heated during the negotiations. Throughout the entire process, I must say, Mehdi maintained a professioal and courteous attitude. Hat's off to him.

I'd say we worked out a price that was a win/win for everyone.

Some noteable features:

Carbon Black exterior color
Phantom Grey with yellow contrast coarse stitching

Carbon Interior Package
Carbon Exterior Package (including carbon door handles)

The transport is slated for delivery a maximum of 4 months from Janaury.

When it comes in, I'll take pictures and post.

For now, I'm in lurk mode trying to pick up as much as I can about opening the engine with a few minor exhaust path upgrades.

Be well...

Congrats! AM of Washington is a good outfit. There are a few of us on here that deal with them regularly. Looking forward to your pics!

Congratulations on your purchase. I dealt with Mehdi on the purchase of my V8 Vantage S last October and he really worked his *** off for me. The next four months will seem like an eternity. Cheers!

Stuart will set you up, but first drive it. I have the same car and the HP seems more than adequate for me... But that will change once I get used to it. My thoughts are headers, 200 cell cats, lightweight titanium rear box that replicates the OEM but designed to handle the additional noise coming from the revised exhaust plumbing. I like an aggressive exhaust but not too aggressive and I simply hate droning at highway speed.

Why don't you just buy the one I built in Newport Beach, CA? We have very similar tastes in the car!! Look it up on their website, 2014 V8V S
