AMG powered Astons
I doubt this will hit the 2016 Vanquish..When ever a large change is done that involves crash testing..it's an average of 5 years before you see the vehicle released to the public..I've heard words of designing now going on, so I see this AMG bespoke engine hitting cars for 2019-2020, which is well before the 2025 higher emission laws ..the electronics on the other hand, long as crash testing is not touched, I would say Yes, possibly the 2016 Vanquish could see some Benz electronics, the 2014 V12 Vantage S has already changed from the Ford/Jag engine management to a complete Bosche engine management system that shares no ties with Ford/Jag..

I think this comment about not having any AMG badging is an interesting thing to point out:
"[Zetsche] added that their customers will know about it anyway without drawing too much lines that would link the two brands together."
To those that don't care about what the car is (ie, "Hollywood owners" that want it because of the looks, or because of the name, but not because of its heritage, performance, etc), the engine having or not having an AMG badge is a non-issue.
To those that do care, they're going to know AMG built the engine regardless of badging.
I know that doesn't add much to the AMG-vs-authentic AM (read: Ford/Jaguar) argument, but I wanted to point it out. I thought it was a very professional thing to do on AMG's part. Requiring the badging be present on the car would, I think, reflect poorly on AMG.

5 years/2019! I'm sure we will see AMG powered Astons long before then....
Take Land Rover as the perfect example..
Ford bought them from BMW in 2000..The plans for the New Full Size Range Rover designed by BMW mirrored of the X5 were released by Ford in 2002.2/2003 with a 4.4L BMW engine and pretty much the mirror image of the X5 powertrain and suspension just beefed up..mind you the body and interior carriage nothing over from BMW....In 2006 Ford finally was able to release the Full Size Range with the 4.2L and 4.4L Jag engines(not a bespoke like A.M, only the top engine cover was different, everything on that engine was Jag).....So that took them 5-6 years and the Jag engine ran strong with very little issues..
In 2008 Tata bought out Land Rover and in 2010 showed a facelift and powertrain change..Land Rover had replaced the Jag 4.2L SC/4.4L NA with the 5.0SC/N.A..3 months into the year, every dealer had at least 2 engine on the shelf in stock to be replaced..and this engine "replacement" thing has been strong since with at least 1 a week coming in..took Tata till 2014 to release the first Land Rover with the engine concerns resolved(even the V6 SC had issues, search into teh first 300 to N.A, horrible story)...So 4 years to fix an engine problem, and there is no "funding" issues with Land Rover nor Tata so why soooo long?? Anybody can argue the fact of " if they took more time in R&R, than this concern would not be here today" ...
Sure the engine is just bad luck too..bud as for service actions..there are more service actions on the new 2014 rover than a soccer mother has for items on a grocery list
Aston rushed out the new Vanquish even with having infotainment issues present from the factory...I'm still getting updates to flash the Parot system in Vanquish to resolve issues..
I'm, really looking forward to the Benz electrics and bespoke engine...but I really hope this doe not hit the selve soon and the correct amount of R&R is put into it..minor glitchs are normal but catastrofic engine failure is not

For example, it could have been that BMW had invested heavily in manufacturing capacity for engines to supply LR, and that they secured a supply contract as part of the LR sale to Ford.
Ultimately, I think the timespan to us seeing an AMG vs Ford engine in an Aston will depend on how "bespoke" bespoke really is. I am thinking 2017 MY if all goes well.
Re the L30 RR and the commonality with the X5 of the same era. At first the under frame and suspension may have been intended as the same but, again, the need to deliver the RRs off-road ability meant different wheelbases (2880 vs 2820) tyre diameters (+30mm) and suspension travels (+ 80mm?) This meant unique hardware, even if conceptually similar?
I am interested in your 5.0 liter LR engine tales - you are starting to make me feel lucky! We had one of the first 2010 RRSSC models in the US and have just sold it at 38,000 miles. The engine performed flawlessly through the time that we owned the vehicle. We're we lucky?

I'll second that. Just traded in my '10 XFR with the 5.0 SC engine, which was absolutely bulletproof - regularly beat up on that engine, and it never drank a drop of oil. Felt every one of its 503 hp, too. Then again, I am gentle on a cold engine and stick to scheduled maintenance. Oh well, sample size of one, whereas Irish has a considerably larger pool from which he can form his impressions...
The 5.0L had a oil jet problem and also get too much slack in the timing chains..long story short they would either clack or have 0-psi of oil pressure at idle and maybe 5psi at 3k..so at first the timing chains and tensioner were being swapped out and replaced..but then LR found the oil jet problem so once you notice the o-psi at idle the engine is simply replaced..the Jag's have not been really involved like LR has, I have no clue why..But it's not a maintence thing, have seen cars with 5,000km on same year of build, have seen 79,999km on last year of warranty, even some off warranty "Goodwill"..
The Jag's involved are mainly the first 300 "V6SC" to N.A, can't get into detail but these engine if faulty are being replaced...
it' really still a "BlackBox", so not much info is passed down..

Would not be checked on service, it's hard to get an engine covered under warranty without a customer concern..no complaint=no fix..not just a LR warranty thing, pretty much the same policy across the brands..sucks for the consumer, wasn't always like this..

The article states the engine will be from the upcoming M177/M178 family - 4.0L V8 Twin Turbo. Whether it be bespoke or not, the estimated power output are:
M177 - 450-500 HP
M178 - 590 HP
With the current V12's highest output at 565hp, perhaps around 600hp when the new V8V is released, a bespoke M177 variant seems logical.

If power output is that high on the V8, I don't see 2 options for the Vanquish for output,.. Vanquish I don't see getting a V8 for 2016. But I wouldn't be surprised if a One-77 inspired 7.0L Variable cam V12 comes into play..that can get the V12 to the 700-800hp limit and be there next supercar in naturally aspirated form
