I've used Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner for years on my other cars. I've always thought it was regarded as one of the better products. Can somebody explain to me what's supposed to be so bad about it? I haven't detailed the inside of the Vantage yet so before I do I'd like to figure out if I need to get a different product. Thanks.

I did some searching to see if I could find any reason why Lexol products would be bad. I didn't find anything and what I found is that many sites/places/people have Lexol on their recommended list. While this is the Internet and I certainly didn't look at every page, my conclusion is that Lexol products (and many others) are just fine unless someone can provide info otherwise.

Here's a sampling of the pages I found. A couple refer to leather today having a protective coating on it, which is also mentioned in one of the threads on here.

I can't remember where I was reading when I read that Lexol may contain silicone additives which cause the leather to harden over time and not breathe. This can eventually cause cracking and/or creases. DO NOT quote me on that. But I did read it somewhere.

Some of that or those problems can be caused by people using too much cleaners which dry the leather out and not enough conditioners. Try to avoid the cleaners and just use conditioners when possible. Most of us only need the conditioner to keep ours up. Volante's are different.

I use AMMO Mousse for mine, but have used and enjoyed Poor Boys product, Letherique. But happy with the AMMO results and I know for sure chemically its safe and good to use.

Lexol does not contain silicone. You don't want silicone in any cleaner/conditioner you use on plastic for the same reason. I've used Vinylex, but most of the good brands have no silicone.

All I've ever used is a damp microfiber cloth.
My leather looks like new and passengers still marvel at the new car smell in my 2012 Vantage S

My seats are obsedian with yellow stitching.

Should I really be doing more?

A couple of the links I posted talk about car leather these days having a protective coating on it. To clean it all you need is a damp cloth like you are doing unless there's ground in dirt and you need a cleaning solution. The effectiveness of conditioners seems to be a subject of debate. I would say if your seats are clean and the leather nice a supple don't stop what you are doing. It's when the leather gets dry and starts to crack that you get issues.

Mines a 2005 with 30k on it. There is normal creasing on side bolsters and on the front of the drivers seat. Otherwise it is very supple. However, I do not want those creases getting worse or drying out and cracking. So once a month will lather it up with AMMO Mousse. Dash I hit about once per 3 months. I have 2x Obsidian Bridge of Weir hides wrapped up behind my couch, so worse case, I get parts recovered if need be.

I normally wipe on, let sit, then take a damp MF towel and wipe till its a matte finish. Yesterday I just left it be. So it does have that shiny look, but its not Armour All shiny. Made it deep black and rich looking. SO for now just left it be. Dont drive it too much so wont bother me.

Just some thoughts for yours. Conditioners wont hurt anything. I have a 2017 V12Vs in the garage and it doesn't need a darn thing on the leather. Wouldn't put anything on it till it needs a cleaning.

Try Zaino. I’ve used it on my Vanquish for a few years. On line. I’m happy with it. Smells great too.

I am running an experiment on our leased Jaguar XE. I vowed not to put any leather products on the areas that are leather to see how they look at the end of 3 years. We are halfway through. All I have done is wipe them down with MF towel after the final touches when drying the car. So far, they look perfect.

I am about to try it. It’s only $19.99 for the leather cleaner AND the conditioner on Amazon. Not bad but is it better or worse than AMMO? I don’t want the AM leather to be shiny

Just wondering if you have tried the Chemical Guys leather cleaner and conditioner to see how it compares to the AMMO leather cleaner and moisturizer?
