Gear box erroneous, function rescued error message
Gear box erroneous, function rescued error message
On my 2009 DB9 I have noticed that when I start the car and hit D button, some times there is a very brief message in display which says something like
"Gearbox error, function reduced" this message goes away in 1-2swcond. Car seems to be driving ok but hey I am new to this car.
There is no check engine light or any other persistent error message.
Is there a problem? Should I get it checked out?

I've seen that on my 09 DB9 when I don't press the gear selector button with any conviction. Once I began pressing the buttons more deliberately instead of quickly, I've stopped seeing the error.
Can you clarify what you said above? Is there specific way you are pressing drive button now vs before?
Thx
Now when I press "D" I press and hold it down for I guess a half second or so and I've not seen the error since I started doing that. I have NO idea if there's any correlation or if it's just coincidence but it's free to try. The error hasn't happened to me in at least a year since I changed my "D" behavior.
This is a common error on AMs with autos, but it is nothing to be concerned about. It will store a code when it happens, but just have the dealer clear it out on your next visit...I cleared mine last week during an event at a dealer...no charge!
There is an update to the switches and sbw module. Also have seen many cars with dirty grounds for the buttons. This causes a high resistance in the circuit and if the sbw module doesn't see the voltage it wants the warning message appears.
