Engine start button

I am having occasional problems with the engine start button.

The first problem occurs after I have inserted and turned the key and then waited a few seconds. I depress the brake and clutch, but the red light surrounding the button does not come on. If I release the clutch and depress again, it usually does light up, but sometimes I have to do it 3 times.

The other variation on this problem is that the light comes on, I push the button, the car starts to turn over and then dies. I release the clutch and then depress it again, the button turns red, I hit it again and the car starts.

These problems are intermittent, but I'm wondering if they suggest a significant problem? Any thoughts?

low voltage on the battery perhaps? Perhaps a battery on it's way out?

I had a similar problem and then realized the wires coming from the switch on the clutch pedal (safety switch?) were loose and not making good consistent contact.. Stick your head up under the dash and it's pretty easy to get a look at.. Made some new connections and solved.. Good luck.
