A most eventful test drive

Yesterday I was at the Jag dealer (Minneapolis) and asked how the sale of their 08 Vantage Roadster was going. They said it had been in an accident of sorts. Apparently the potential buyer was driving it home to get the wife's approval and at 60 MPH the hood flew open and smashed the windshield (bending the hood at mid point). He called for a ride and called the dealer and told them where they can pick up the car.

Since the dealer had no idea who closed the hood without it latching, they are eating the cost of repairs.

Any other stories about inadvertent hood opening?

Hmmm...I don't see how that is possible.

Does the Vantage hood latch differently than the standard latch system???

This is exactly what happened to my car. The engineer took for a test drive and the bonnet flipped open hit windscreen and flew over the car.

New Bonnet + Windscreen + Wrap + Grease for the hinge mechanism !

Guys double check the hinges. Dont get caught out.

That seems odd as my vantage has the two stage release. ie hood release in passenger compartment and then the second mechanical release under the front of the bonnet, that's why that two stage was adopted decades ago on all cars I thought. So for the bonnet to open it would not have had either engaged.

Faulty safety catch; doesn't return after you pull it to open the hood. There was some kind of SB for them IIRC. That's what Vergis means by grease for the hinge.
