The parking brake is mechanical and only engages when you pull the emergency/parking brake lever up. During normal braking operation, the larger Brembo calipers do the braking, not the parking brake.

Well I guess there are some maneuvers you use the handbrake for...
Newer models of Jaguar and other brands use the eBrake as an integral part of traction and stability control. But your DB9, and my DBS only connect the parking brake to the manual lever that engages/disengages the parking brake.
I don't know if the newer MY AM's use the ebrake in this way or not...
