No More AM? Has this been discussed?
That matches the model revamp plans I've been seeing reported. AM is looking to diversify the design of the cars to make them more distinguishable while they're updating them. The Vanquish was the first of the new generation (thus the completely different styling compared to the Vantage and DB9). The DB9 replacement comes next in '16, the Vantage in '17, and the Rapide in '18.
A bit more for the AM submission
The petition requests an exemption for the following periods:
I guess they will have the new model ready for 31st August 2017

- DB9 coupe model production from September 1, 2014 until August 31, 2016;
- DB9 convertible model production from September 1, 2015 until August 31, 2016;
- Vantage coupe model production from September 1, 2014 until August 31, 2017; and,

I really don't think AM is going to get a pass...if AM had no funding due to low sales for development of new designs(like they state), then how do they explain the ability to make the Zagato, Rapide, Vanquish, and even the One-77. I know the One-77 paid for itself and development of the Vanquish.....But...
What the true question AM has to answer is: Why would AM make a new Vanquish from scratch with the research funding of the One-77 and not make the highest selling models(Vantage+DB9) comply with the current ruling that was required since 2007 for all manufactures of this vehicle class to meet??

Correct, the dealers will survive and a large part of their product line still is eligible. It's mainly the V8V coupes and DB9 coupes for this upcoming year. The convertibles have 1 year longer.
New AMG powered vantage will come in late 2017 at some point (possible as a 2018 model).
It's cheaper for Aston to actually just get out of the US market for many of their vehicles since it costs more to comply with the ruling ($43k per car supposedly). The vanquish and rapids still meet that criteria but there will be no new Vantages.
The dealerships will not go out of business because most of the major Aston dealerships are a part of a larger dealership network of 4-8 dealerships so they will do just fine. They can also still sell used preowned Vantages and DB9s as well (which to be honest is probably MORE profitable for them since they get their asses handed to them on new cars).
The exemption is most likely not going to go through, if it was they would have gotten it by now. The fact that dealerships have already cut off orders months ago is an indication everyone sees the writing on the wall. For this reason I do believe the Vantages prices will stabilize and possibly even rise slightly as demand outstrips supply.
Also, I don't know if there are any dealerships that sell only Astons. The three dealerships I have experience with (Motorcars of Georgia, Foreign Cars Italia (Charlotte), and Aston Martin of Washington DC) all sell at least two other brands alongside Aston Martin.
Almost all Aston dealerships are a part of another dealership network because the sales volume is so low it's hard to only sell just Astons. Beverly Hills, Houston, Palm Beach, and many others all fall in that category
Think it highly unlikely that they would've carried the exemption down to the wire and then announce "just in the nick of time" the exemption was granted. Guessing it's a done deal and no more v8s or db9s for the US market.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that there are a bunch of cars on the ship with K-F's GT. If the waiver doesn't get granted, there will be a boatload (literally) of cars available. How long that stock will last is anyone's guess, though.
Gotta love the govt expected a ruling "sometime this year" Hell, it's Sept 2, the exemption expired and four months left in the year...............
I love how they are basically telegraphing their future model product releases lol. It's like watching a game of no limit poker with the cards facing the opponents.
So next AMG based Vantages being released as a 2018 model on sept 1st 2017, a year earlier for the DB9 replacement.
Based on the article, not sure the US govt is really taking it that seriously, certainly no rush to do anything. At best there will probably a 3-6 months gap if not longer.
