Old news the deadline is days away and the factory are flat out building a lot of US spec cars
No news yet on whether they will get an exemption though
I suspect they will wait a year or so and address it with the 2016 AMG engined cars

The only updated news is that now the US dealers have filed a petition to go along with the petition that AML itself filed back in April. The dealers are claiming they may have to close the doors to the franchises unless the waiver gets granted. Only 2 more weeks to go.

I doubt the dealers will be able to survive a full year without being to sell the Vantage and DB9 coupes which are their bread and butter.

I'm amazed its gotten this far. When this news came out earlier this year I figured they get it resolved one way or the other. Now I'm not so sure.

Anyone buying a car might want to get it done in the next 3 weeks.

To be clear, it doesn't matter when you buy the car. The only thing that matters is that it was manufactured before September 1, 2014 for the coupes or September 1, 2015 for the convertibles. It is already too late to order a spec'd coupe, as there is no chance that it would actually get built before the deadline. I ordered my new car back in April and it didn't get built until two weeks ago.

Well that's lucky for you. It would be really horrible if an ordered and built car was prevented from being delivered.

If they don't get the exemption, it's bye bye to getting my dream car

This is actually a pretty serious matter. USA dealers have been prevented from taking orders on certain models for quite some time now because they knew those cars could not be built before the deadline.

No kidding. By next year they lose the ability to sell most of their car line. That's going to put most of the dealers out of business unless they can survive on used car sales.

Which was my point about buying a used car built by a manufacturer who no longer sells cars in the U.S. If they can't sell new cars, how long would they survive here? And who would work on the used cars if dealers went out of business? This is why I doubt a U.S. AM ban would drive up used AM values.

Anyway, hopefully AM will get the waiver and this will all be moot.

Besides DB9 and Vantage V8 coupes, there are volantes version plus Vanquish, Rapide S, V12VS available. I think most of them will survive. Marques such as McLaren, Lotus and Lambo dealerships survive with less than 3 models.

I suspect it affects nearly all the range

Convertibles are built on the same chassis's as is the V12VS
Only two it may not affect is the Vanquish and the Rapide assuming their newer chassis pass the tests?

A bit more for the AM submission

The petition requests an exemption for the following periods:
  • DB9 coupe model production from September 1, 2014 until August 31, 2016;
  • DB9 convertible model production from September 1, 2015 until August 31, 2016;
  • Vantage coupe model production from September 1, 2014 until August 31, 2017; and,
  • Vantage convertible model production from September 1, 2015 until August 31, 2017.
The petitioner believes that 670 vehicles would be covered by the requested exemption. This would be the total number of exempted vehicles imported into the United States over the entire exemption period.

I guess they will have the new model ready for 31st August 2017
