Top Speed for '06 DB9 Volante

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting in the Texas Mile (wide open for 1 mile... no 5-0) and read that the 2006 and older had restricted for 165mph. Not withstanding, is there a legitimate speed where the top will be damaged that anyone knows about or crossed that threshold? The post 2006MY supposedly has top speed of 183. Can anyone shed any light to this? I certainly don't want to damage my top although I doubt I'll ever go to or over 165.

Yes. It is limited there is a dealer procedure that can take it off. You can also buy a programmer and do it yourself. Aston limits it due to the rag top and recommend any speeds over that be achieved with the top down.

Thanks DallasBaker,

I was more curious if anyone crossed that threshold of 165 at all with the top up. I'm assuming it's probably ok a wee bit higher but I don't want to take that chance. I had it tuned so that limiter has already been taken off. Thanks for your insight.

One way to find out! I wouldn't even want to think about what AM would charge to replace a top., Thousands and thousands I'm sure.

WildBob hasn't posted for awhile, but he was tracking his DB9 Volante and might know something about high speed. Last I remember he'd managed to activate his roll hoops -- which would have totalled his rear window if the top had been up.

I was at the AM Dealer in Houston a while back and I thought I remember him saying in the neighborhood of $7k to replace the top.

Just to anyone who cares I found a website accelerationtimes.com and for 1 mile it's 33.1 seconds at 154mph from a standing start. So I don't plan on hitting that 165 mark unless I'm driving to the salt flats sometime in the future or on grand theft auto. From the sounds of it WildBob might have done that, though. I'll look him up and see if I can pm him. Thx.

Last week somebody assumed their Vantage had Launch Control. We know how that ended.

I'm guessing there were 2500 or so of the '06 or earlier made. Somebody had to give it a go. Hopefully WildBob can debunk the limit theory.

The ragtop handled it well

I just wanted to follow-up that 160mph was safe even with a little headwind.

Mikey, what year do you have? I think they improved/made changes to the tops production date June or later in 2006.
