Back in the AM fold with a V8V roadster
Removing the laser jammer sensors
I decided to remove the radar sensors in the front grill myself, and it was an easy task. I started by removing the large front engine plate, but found that wasn't really necessary for access. The sensors didn't seem to be screwed in, and so I assumed they were glued or fixed with double-sided tape. I slipped a box cutter along the top of each one and they popped out easily.
I removed the grill for cleaning and to secure the sensors behind it, since they were attached to the main laser unit somewhere in the dash by a single wire with no joins. But since these are just pure radar jammers and are now illegal in our country (they were installed before the law change), I snipped the wires and will keep the sensors in case the next owner wants to use them.
Then I found that the black tape securing them reflected in the grill bar below it, so spent most of the total time on the whole job removing the adhesive so that it didn't show. Details, details!
Warning, don't drop a grill securing screw. It falls way down on to the engine floor pan at the bottom of the car! Luckily I could still see it with a flashlight, so stuck some bluetack on the edge of a 24" ruler and carefully pulled it up. Twice
Here's the grill looking like normal now.
