Clutch advice

Getting frequent shudder from standing stop in first on my '07 V8V with ASM even with resets. Settles in with no shudder after driving a few miles. Does this mean my clutch is starting to go? No other problems -- shifts are crisp, pull well in all gears, etc. I'm at 25,000 miles. I'm thinking about a preemptive replacement, but maybe that's crazy. Dealer says that newer AM relacement clutches are an improvement over the original. Does that sound right? Thanks.

could continue as is for short or long time, with manual gearbox it is possible to feel pedal and pull away and gauge life expectancy, alerting driver to change before immobile car. Downside of asm is that the control brain cant assess and alert driver to the same. So one day will just stop working because clutch clamp will be insufficient and gear selection will not happen putting system in shutdown.

at least in UK the single plate clutch from dealer is same today as when first implemented

+1

My ASM system is as cr*ppy as the one I had before I replaced it. It wore out with no warnings and left me stranded. Dealer should be able to get a readout on estimated wear through their system.

The ASM does give signs it's either close to done or way out of adjustment. To me it sounds like your weariness is really high and needs to be reset, then relearned..not to be confused with kiss point or clutch relearn. The wearindex will learn the torque transfer of the clutch which will reduce and almost eliminate any shudder/judder...To do this, the latest software needs to be updated into the TCU, then clutch will be forced to reset with dealers AMDS machine...all the settings can then be relearned correctly. I get some seriously bad ASM juddering cars, especially in reverse, when I'm done it's smooth. Main problem I see is ppl drive the vantage like it's an automatic, which does cause premature clutch life along with drivability concerns, it's a manual transmission shifted hydraulically by driver input, treat it like a stick shift..
