Flying into DC this Friday to pick up my new GT !
I know I could have shipped it to TX, but then I thought what the heck, I bought the car to drive .
It will be a good excuse to do 3 days of back roads from Virginia to TX and give it a proper break in and get to know the new steed.
This is my first Aston, and I bought it soley because I wanted that sweet little V8 in a traditional layout and this car seems to fit the bill.

 

Be sure to hit the NC TN smokey mtns, some great roads there.

distance is about the same and the weather most likely would be better for your travels .

Oh Boy, Oh boy--Back Roads. Consider taking Hwy 66 to Hwy 81, turn south. Turn off Hwy 81 onto Hwy 23 to Ashville, NC ( a beautiful town). But the main reason to go that way is now you can go onto the Blue Ridge Parkway, and most important continue onto Hwy 129--"The Tail of the Dragon"--the most famous curvey road in the US. Be sure to stop at the beginning of the"Tail" at the Tourist shop to get your T-shirt. You may never have such a convenient time to visit the "Tail" so try not to miss it. You won't find many motorcycles on the Tail this time of year. It's always a fun road for cars--especially your NEW GT!

You'll be certain to enjoy it. I picked mine up and did a similar trip earlier in the year -smiled the whole time. What I did learn about this car is you don't ever want to waste time driving on anything but a two lane highway. And I'm envious... Here's mine a couple of weeks ago... Yes those diagonal lines on the picture aren't defects. That's snow... until next spring... I'll be wishing I lived closer to Texas. Enjoy the trip!

I shipped mine "up" to DC and drove it back down to Miami - This was our route ..

DC - Staunton - Banner Elk - Asheville - Maggie Valley - Atlanta ...

Very little highway driving - took smaller side roads ...

We spent 3 days up in Asheville area driving around......

You could do that route then head to TX from Atlanta area ..... Enjoy

 

I absolutely suggest the same as one of the previous poster, Asheville, tail of the dragon and the smokeys are a must do.

Curious why you bought it in DC since I am in the market myself now. What options did you get?

Hwy 81 can be a huge drag and there's an AWESOME road that runs parallel to it. It's called Skyline Drive and you'll want to take that.

Take 66 West from Tysons Corner (where AM of DC is) to Front Royal.
Exit from 66W onto 340 South, which will take you through Front Royal.
As soon as you're through the south end of Front Royal, turn left onto Skyline Drive. It'll take you south a nice long ways.

It's still on your way toward the Tail of the Dragon.

 

From Skyline Drive, you MUST continue on to the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to Asheville. 400 miles of pure driving heaven, and will be totally empty at this time of year.

Do NOT go I-81 !!!

 

That's a GREAT suggestion to stay off of I-81. However, end up in Asheville, NC so you can take the "Tail of the Dragon"--a road not to be missed.

Thanks for the suggestions from all. I did the Blue RidgeParway last year on two wheels and will do some of it again in the AM no doubt. Will do mostly backroads and stay off the interstate at least through VA and TN.
As far was why I bought in DC , it was purely a price thing and they had a low option 6 speed , black with a light grey interior that I really liked. It was also a good excuse to do the roads in that area again.
I cant wait to get my butt in that seat and my foot on the go pedal !!

From the Dragon, take the Cherohala Skyway which will get you almost to Chattanooga. Done this trip many times, I live right off the Dragon.
