2015 GPS simulator?

Does anyone knows what is the GPS simulator function in the nav is?

I believe its a leftover Garmin thing. On my old portable Garmin GPS (I still use it when I travel and have a rental car) there was a simulator function for demonstrating the navigation when you are out of GPS signal range. Only time I ever saw it get used was in the store when I was testing out different models.
