Does anyone really want a Supercharged V8 Vantage
Does anyone really want a Supercharged V8 Vantage
After 6 years, 60,000 miles and 20 or 30 track days on my old VFE supercharger in my old Carrera 4S, I'm wondering if the V8 Vantage community is ready for something similar.
Can't guarantee VFE is interested.
Can't guarantee CARB EO certification.
Can't guarantee the standard 120 HP boost given to the Porsches.
But I suspect we can get the ball rolling if there's enough interest.
Anyone interested?
Expect $10K with a $2K install and a need for a new ceramic clutch.
Expect trouble free +120 HP operation for the life of your car.
No, I'm not at all affiliated with VFE. Just a fan with a V8 Vantage in need of a little help... :-)

Just to make it clear, the Aston Martin community has nothing like the VFE Vortex V3 - Intercooled Supercharger System. VFE makes the premier supercharger systems for Porsche, BMW and Lamborghini. Lots of years boosting high performance engines and no mistakes. It's just a simple 120+ HP bolt on that keeps going and going (like the Energizer Bunny). I'm guessing the 4.2L community would appreciate more than the 40+ HP available from Bamford Rose. And I'm personally interested since my supercharged 996 C4S was so much faster than my 4.7L V8 Vantage.
ESX Vantage SC kit uses Vortech supercharger, which has been around since 07/08. Not sure which supercharge GMR uses. RSC claimed they had a SC kit back in 2012, though no one really knows if it ever existed. All of the above stated from 500 to 600HP on 4.3L.
So, I'm listening.. please tell me more.

I'm sure plenty of people want more power out of their V8 Vantages.
BR, VAP, and RSC all offer bolt-on options that net about 40 hp. These are very common and basically comprise intake, exhaust, and tune. But there are options to get more - superchargers, engine builds, etc.
As both Cret and I said - yes, we do.
I'll bet my left ******** - which is my favorite, btw - that they've made plenty of mistakes. Anyone that says they haven't made mistakes while doing product development is full of sh*t.

I'm a fan of aftermarket superchargers, having done a few of my previous cars.
5 years ago a did a lot of research on doing it to a Vantage. After talking to those that offered them and the guys how developed the performance packages for the factory I walked away
I had a 550 BHP GT4 engine built for similar money to the supercharger kits that I KNOW there is no risk in

Not at such a low price, if that's what it actually turned out to be.
This guy needs to look into the work rmrmd (sp?) did to get his supercharged Vantage going. Insane amounts of man-hours went into the ECU alone. Add that to the cost of hardware, then add in the cost of installation.... good luck hitting $10k.
Very very few aftermarket SC kits hack the OEM ECU
That said there is still a LOT of work to ensure it is reliable and safe
The AJ37 is apparently quick to burn valve seats and destroy cats if it runs too lean
Reading the VFE website their package would be "me too"
Some potential for a hot charge (see cat/valves comment above)
~6 psi boost
No experience of either Aston ECU
One good thing is the roots blower on V8's
Hey Mikey,
You mentioned "I had a 550 BHP GT4 engine built for similar money to the supercharger kits that I KNOW there is no risk in".
Since there doesn't seem to be enough interest to attract VFE, and I'm not willing to risk my motor on other vendors, I would like to consider your path. Do you have a link detailing the GT4 conversion?
Thanks,
Ric :-)
