Considering a 09 Vantage
So far I like it. Took it out today for a short drive to my grandson's soccer game. It is going to take som time to know how to drive it with the sport shift. I think it sounds like a Mustang GT, that's a good thing. With the sport shift it is a different than my Porsche that has a manual 7 spd or my Bentley that has an automatic. It should be nice to have something in between. So my next thing to do is to remove the clear bra and then begin touch up and paint correction. Then I want to have a local leather shop repair the bolster on the drivers seat. Could probably leave it as is but I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my cars. Maybe someone on here knows how to get the pen to stay in its holder.
These cars like to be driven aggressively - lift on the gas when you shift for best results as if you were using a manual. When traffic allowed, I would wind it to between 5 and 6 thousand RPM between shifts, unfortunately it's pretty rare to get a police free open stretch of road in Minneapolis. My 09 was too quiet, but under extended warranty and I was told that switching exhaust was a warranty no-go. My 15 GT sounds great, I thought my 07 had less Mustang sound and more Ferrari sound which I thought was better, but the 4.7 has a ton more low end power than the 4.3 so it's a trade-off I guess. Also I used to wait about 20 seconds after starting my 09 to make sure the clutch kiss proceedure was accomplished... makes for a more pleasant experience.
The previous owner took the #22 fuse out,and it does sound good. The Ferrari had a bypass valve for the exhaust and when it was open at high rpm it sounded like a formula 1 car. My 911 has the sport exhaust where you can push a button and it opens the exhaust. Even the Bentley has a valve that opens when you floor it. That said I really do like the sound of Aston. It does drive different from my other cars and that is a good thing. It will take some getting used to especially the width getting into the garage.
Finally done with detailing the Vantage. Removed the old scratched up clear bra, clay bared, polished with the orbital buffer, touched up with dr color chip, and then waxed. Took the wheels off to clean the wheel wells and cleaned polished and coated the wheels with rejex. Cleaned and detailed under the hood. Painted the raised lines on the coil covers with a foam brush and high temp silver paint. Got that idea from our F355. Still have to treat the leather.
