Castrol 5w-50 works much better in my opinion and makes the engine feel more free revving as well. It's a good year round oil you can year in both summer and winter without any negative consequences. BMW also recommends this oil on their 10w-60 cars so it should not be an issues.

When I got the car it had a Bosch oil filter on it , that crossed to a Fram PH 9010 so I used that . I did get an Aston Filter cheap on flea bay so I just used that but I will go back to the Bosch or Fram or K&N whatever I can get locally . It's just a filter so I'm not paying 50$ just to get an Aston part# painted on a K&N or whoevers filter it is and seeing as it gets changed way more frequently than actually required I'm not concerned .
Be carfull with the filter, Fram and others not selected correctly could bypass too easily, the spring in the Oem / Jag part number I quoted some years back has a different release pressure , I had this stuff looked at very carefully and made a point of mentioning the Jag part number after having some investigation done.
As for changing a filter at 2000km I'm not sure there is benefit, that is why I ask, in the piston helicopters we replace oil at 50 hours, and we get a full oil analysis done, I read these (and understand) what it says, in my Aston it's normally too new to make decisions as I run very little mileage between oil changes.
Would love to get Oem technical advise on filter replacement annually from a cut open and Annalise point of view, it's not about the saving .....just is it worth it at 2000km per year? And I feel filter replacement every two years is ok?

+1 Both Palm Beach and Orlando AM told me to go with Castrol 5W-50 PN:06250. You can buy 6qt cases on Amazon.

I get my filters mailed from AM of New England in Waltham for $38 including washers.

58k miles and burning about half a quart every 1500 miles. Average driving.

The bypass spring/valve is there to bypass the filter SHOULD the filter become plugged or fail internally so the engine isn't damaged due to lack of oil circulation . Better to have dirty oil circulating than none at all .
Based on my oil change frequency the chances of the bypass valve/spring working to early are probably slim to none .

YES there is! A red triangle that will say to check your oil pressure. However, it does NOT stay on!

Oh, just to clarify, if the warning light comes on, your oil level is really low... it's a red triangle (not orange) for a reason. Definitely check your dipstick. Takes only a minute.

Dealerships just adore guys like you

True story ... I'm at the parts counter at the local BMW dealership waiting to get parts for my good lady's Z4 ... Guy in front of me asks for windshield fluid ...... Counter guy says yes sir it's right there grab what you need ..... Customer "it's not BMW fluid ....won't that affect my warranty?"
.......True story I kid you not !!!!!!

Probably the same guy that books it in to the dealership to have the ash tray emptied and get that special BMW air put in the tires !!!
