Why do you suppose the people that comment about this car are so full of misinformation and outright hate of anything British made? I know British cars were known for being unreliable in the past but those days are long gone. Yet off the wall comments persist. People that could never own a car anything like an Aston sure do have their opinions about never wanting one in the first place!
Classic catch-22. For the last few years, journalists and internet 'experts' have whined about how Aston's styling is too stale, and how all their cars look the same. Now that Aston has changed their styling, the same people say "Instead of tweaking the tried-and-true formula ever so slightly, Aston’s drastic styling change resulted in a car that looks like the result of a rough three-way between West Coast Customs, Will.I.Am, and a salvage title Ford Fusion".
I'm not discounting that people may have a genuine opinion about the DB11's appearance, but one wonders if they are just desperate to find something to write about, or specifically, criticize.

I have always liked the look of an AM. The AM holds it looks better that some Ferraris. Everyone knows what a Ferrari looks like and it draws attention, to much attention. An AM is the kind of car that the car people notice. Understated is the best word I can think that fits AM.
Having seen the new DB11 I think it is great looking.
To me the main connection is the previous Vanquish. The proportion of the grille, the hip lines, the... all of it something something specificity. Tequila's winning, but you get the point.
The pics are at different angles but seriously these two cars have so much in common that it's more of a Vanquish-DB11 connection than a Vanq-Vanq or DB9-DB11 connection.
Have always used this in analysis of design in my field, and found it useful in clarifying what i like or dislike about car design. I have condensed it to what is relevant to auto design. I have discovered, like many, that it appears not to be one characteristic or attribute that "makes or breaks" the design but sometimes the synergy of all the little things. A strong minimmalist design, requires a lot of work that to many is imperceptible, but the result is stunning. I will need a walk around of new DB before I chime in.
"The basic elements of good design are: unity, harmony, emphasis, subordination and dominance, contrast, variety, rhythm, balance, scale and proportion, line and form... any good design from the simplest to most elaborate, has unity... it requires consistency of line and form, and give a feeling of oneness... each part must be essential in itself, and at the same time add to the total effect, having a distinct rapport with the materials employed."

There are plenty of people who will say bad things about ANYTHING, and I've found the vast majority of them troll the internet. Most because they probably have nothing better to do.
You can't make all the people happy all the time, and Aston has never been a car intended for everyone.
I may be in the minority, but I don't find the styling of the current crop of Ferrari's very attractive at all. That's not to say I wouldn't want a 488, because it's supposed to be a wonderful car, but in my opinion it's busy and too angular. It looks like it was designed for the next Transformer's movie, but it's still sexy in its own right. Again, opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one!
Interestingly Jalopnik called it a transitional car like the DB6. They have a cool slider that lets you compare the DB5 to DB6, and then the DB9 to the DB11.

Add me to the minority. The last decent looking F car IMO was the 360CS, although you have to go back to the 355 to get something that really looks good.
