Oil pump sound

After cold start I have a strange whining sound after about 1-1.5 minutes (garage says it is probably the oil pump?) - the sound appears to stop completely after another minute or two.

At the workshop they claim it is not a problem at all - some cars make the sound other don't?! I would rather that mine does not make this sound as a faulty oil pump could be a huge problem in the future.

I have asked for it to be fixed/replaced under warranty of course - but now they want the opinion of the factory first.

I assume changing the oil pump is not trivial?

Any thoughts?

Secondary air pump can make noise when engine is cold, switches off after a while. Might it be that?

I get a sound fior about 3-4 seconds after it's been standing for a while I'm not sure I would be happy with a full minute ? Also it's a bit embarrassing when you are parked in a public place and it were to happen, fortunately mine only has cold starts at my home.

I would get it fixed but the risk is high they damage some other stuff, as the entire front has to be removed and it's a biggish job.

As long as we're talking sounds. Always wondered what are those lid closing sounds that randomly come from under the dash? Is it just me?

I have that one as well if the car has been parked for more than a week or so and is starting from cold. Is it the oil pump or the air pump?

I would start the documentation process on this problem. Since the car is brand new you don't want them to blow you off and 3 months after the warranty expires the oil pump goes and you get hit with 5k repair bill. Make the dealer say it is not the pump at least 3 times so when it or if it goes you have something to help you get it fixed at not cost. Remember dealers survive on repairs and service keep the doors open and the sale of the cars is the profit.

Thanks - I am doing exactly that. Im fact I have made audio and video recording which the dealer has now sent to the factory for advice and comment.

Had an oil and filter change which seems to have helped. It is not 100% gone though.

Will update when there is news.

Out of interest did you resolve this problem, as I have a similar noise.

Thanks

My guess would be the vacuum actuators that control the Heating /AC systems

I need to post the noise here I think. Mine is almost like a semi high pitched buzz and lasts until the engine gets warm. Car runs perfectly other than this issue though.
