new hub time? :(

Hi guys, i gave my local indi my aston to fit H&R spacers for the 2006 vantage. I told them the rear studs will require to be trimmed 10mm and they have taken them so far back that the wheels no longer fit without the spacers on.

The problem is that i want to change my wheels now but obviously the studs are now not long enough. What is the easiest option, change the hub or find some new studs?

I would think, either get a new set of OEM rear studs, trim 10mm then have them put on the car. That likely is the only option, but the best and easiest.

A lot of people need longer studs for spacers. Could go with longer ones, then different type of spacers where the wheel will bolt directly to the hub bolts, rather than the HRE where the spacer bolts to the hub, and the wheel bolts to the spacer.

2x options, pick your fancy

thanks bud, when my new wheels come I wont be needing any spacers so i can just try and source some oem spec studs from somewhere. The next problem would be how difficult would swapping the studs out actually be??

I recently had RSC spacers put on my '08 V8V Roadster -- 20mm rear and 15mm front. They came with longer wheel bolts. They were a pain in the *** to install because they required the brakes and rotors to be removed so the the old bolts could be pressed out and the new ones pressed in. Totally worth it though -- the wheels are now flush with the fenders and they are nice and secure with the longer wheel bolts.

thanks for that! was it an easy process to press the old studs out and new ones in?

They trimmed the studs?? Were they the OEM studs or extended ones?

If you had extended studs, you can use open-ended lug nuts to manage the extra length. If they overly-trimmed them.... that's just odd but best course is new studs.

It went pretty well until the rear driver-side hub -- the rotor just wouldn't come off because it was rusted in there. Took some "convincing" with a mallet. LOL

Thank you for the input guys, they were just the standard studs which fouled the old wheels slightly, they only needed to be trimmed 15mm max, but they went alot more!

15mm is a lot!!! My question is rather, WHY??
The OEM studs are not required to be trimmed for the H&R spacers.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around why they would trim the studs to begin with...

Reviving old thread - need source for studs

Reviving this older thread - I am in the same boat - have had spacers on the car since purchased and they have pockets where the old studs bolt in and then were cut off (so the spacer has the actual lugs the wheel bolts to on it). I need to now replace those original studs that were cut off with new ones (moving to a new location) and I can't seem to find info anywhere on the details and a potential source for these. Any suggestions on where I can source 10 of these?

Thanks for the help.

Auto parts stores have press-in studs. I don't know what length you want. It's an easy procedure to pound the old studs out (with a nut on the end) and then pull the new ones in.

Thanks - was mostly concerned about the press in diameter and size, Suppose I can just pop one out and then measure and get one to match with the M14x2.0 threads.

The hole diameter is very likely to be the same from stud to stud.

You want to make sure the knurl length and diameter of the studs are correct for the holes. The knurl is designed to compress in the hole so I don't think you'll get a completely accurate measurement from one you pull out. You might have to add .1mm or something to it. I'd see if you can find the specs for the stock studs somehow.
