How far should hatch "pop" up? V8 Vantage
I recently purchased my first Aston. One annoyance is the hatch does not pop up very far when you hit the button to release it. Maybe 1/4 of an inch. Is this an indicator of weak hatch lift struts? They hold the hatch up fine once it is raised.

Thanks. On my other cars they leave about an inch gap to get your hand under which is why I figured I would ask.
Thanks for clarifying.
It's not the issue of it being automatic. My fingers can scratch the paint lifting the hatch up because the gap between the bumper and hatch is so small. My z06 was the same way and the trick was to put pennies under the springs. I am an OCD freak for fingerprints or fine scratches so I just figured I would ask.

That is about all you get, but you can check the rubber stops on the lid bottom. They contact the body opening on top of the tail lights. they have a "spring" assist center that aids in hatch opening. they break off inside of the hatch sometimes. looks like a phillips screw in the center. Gas assist struts have a date code on them xxx/XX first there digit is the day of the year followed by the 2nd digits being the year. IE 186/09 (186th day of 2009) replace all the vehicle struts hood/door/hatch at the same time.

I checked out the rubber stops. The center springs are shot! Thanks.
