Lube your shifter linkage!

Hello. When i first got my 6 speed manual Vantage i always thought the shifter felt very unrefined. Especially from neutral into any gear. I thought changing the transmission fluid would help. It did to some extent. I had the arm rest console and shifter out of the car and noticed the shifter linkage and shifter cables looked like it they hadn't been lubed in a while. I lubed the linkage and cables. What a difference. If you haven't done this you should. Makes all the difference. I highly recommend it.

So for a 6-speed manual transmission, I should remove the center console and

"lube the shaft"

Mine was shifting stiff until they did the clutch, where I'm pretty sure they lubed the cables because it shifted very smooth when I got it back.

Is there anyway for a DIYer to get a grease nipple to one end or the other without removing the linkage from the car?

Once you have the leather shifter **** out you can see where all the pivot points are for the entire shifter mechanism and the cables. Apply solid white lithium grease to everything.

I can't believe this dealership serviced car never had the transmission fluid changed. I searched all the service records. I think the service interval is 5 years. The fluid was pretty black.

As far as removing interior parts goes i usually use masking tape on the areas i think might be damaged by rubbing solid surfaces on the leather. Especially when lifting out the metal shifter base. Be careful.

Yeh mine is the same, I am going to check this out this weekend. Did you merely lube the rod that passes in and out of the outer sheath?
