I've been shopping and shopping and shopping for the *right* exhaust (using YouTube mainly for sound comparisons). I finally decided on the Capristo unit. Main reason: I wanted to retain the OEM exhaust valve setup--the ability to give the car two personalities...(I previously installed the remote control valve switch with the OEM exhaust so i'm good to go there.) Plus, I put a Capristo on my RS5 and the quality/fit/finish is incredible. It's too bad it's in a place nobody can see it! Sure, the Capristo is expensive but it's befitting an Aston Martin.
With the workshop manual to guide me, I didn't hesitate a second on installing this myself. I have a 4-post lift which is a big help and the means to do it. (Which I'm thankful for as I trust very few people to work on my cars.) I don't see any way of getting the OEM exhaust out of the car without removing the rear bumper cover, so that's what I did. Sadly, it was only until I got the car torn down and ready to install the new exhaust when I realized I forgot to order a set of new donut exhaust gaskets....A quick order from Stuart at VelocityAP and his great customer service has the gaskets headed my way as I type. You can tell the car is hand built and such a pleasure to work on: fasteners are only as tight as they need to be (likely hand tightened) which makes it so nice to disassemble without breaking anything. Zero rust to contend with never hurts either!
Anyway, for others who may want to install an exhaust themselves on the Vantage, it's not hard at all. It's helpful to have another set of hands to help lower the OEM muffler (plus set in the new one) and removing/installing the rear bumper cover. Other than that, pretty easy one-man job.
The necessary pages out of the 2013 V12 Vantage workshop manual for those interested are in the next thread in this post.
Here's a few shots of the Capristo...the craftsmanship is second to none. This thing is a jewel. I ordered cat-delete pipes too (you can see in the first pic as I was unboxing) but will keep my 200-cell cats in place for now to see how it sounds:
The bumper cover off and ready to remove OEM muffler:
OEM exhaust out and ready to install the Capristo once the new gaskets arrive!
...and here's a few side-by-side comparisons of the exhausts:
I weighed each:
OEM = 54.6 lbs.
Capristo = 36.6 lbs.
Net weight savings of 18 lbs.
I'll post updates with the remainder of the install and vids once she's all back together!!!
Best,
-Dan
