Extended warranty for 2011 DB9

I was quoted $5,000 for a one year warranty for a 2011 DB9 from an Aston Dealer.
Am curious what the Aston community thinks of this. Does a low mileage (8k mi.) well maintained DB9 even need this warranty coverage? Are these cars similar to Ferrari's in that a major cost can pop up at any time? I've owned Ferrari's and found it to be very stressful in that you never knew what was coming.
I guess what I'm asking is an Aston Martin just another exotic similar to Ferrari & Lamborghini or are they more reliable and durable?

thanks

I certainly would not pay $5k for a one year warranty, that seems expensive even for Aston. I would bank the money and use it for any works that may arise over the next year. It's always a gamble and you can never predict what might go wrong, but those cars are pretty reliable.

I do not think it is worth it $5K. I think I would actually sleep better keeping that $5k in the bank vs. tossing it down the drain to the Aston dealer. How many miles do you drive a year? These cars are cheaper to maintain than their Lamborghini or Ferrari counterparts. People are shocked that a clutch job is $5k+ on an Aston but they have not seen what is involved with a Lamborghini. It is double that figure. There are also many good independent shops that have the proper tools to troubleshoot and repair you car as well as fantastic resources and vendors like Rich @ Redpants. Even if you are the "everything must be done by the Aston dealer" owner; I still think $5K is too much.

That one year will sure go by quickly at that cost...

no way in hell I'd pay that much, maybe 2k

remember they don't cover wear items (like brakes, clutch, fluids, coils/plugs even?), just mechanical things

I might consider it if I had a convertible but there aren't a whole lot of weak spots on the coupe DB9 from '11 that would be covered under warranty

Originally the salesman quoted me $4,500 for a two year warranty which seemed fairly reasonable. Then today he e-mails me and says $5k for one year, which I agree is excessive.

Spend a few hundred dollars on an AM dealer PPI for the car if you are looking at buying it. If the PPI is good then pass on the wrrty. If the PPI is bad then pass on the car. Simple. BTW if the car is at an AM dealer it should come with a one year wrrty. Ken

remember warranties are where salesmen/financiers make their money, they are always negotiable by like 50% or more some times

The car is on consignment so the dealer doesn't own it, so it can't be a CPO car - as was explained to me. It has been inspected (or so I'm told) and all is good. The salesman pointed out that if they did own this car, it would be a CPO sale and would be priced accordingly - i.e. $2-4k more.
Wondering - is $86k reasonable for a 2011 DB6 with 8,000 miles? Car looks pristine.

If it has been inspected then ask for a copy of the report. I'll bet there isn't one. Tell them you want a full PPI thrown in if you agree to a price. Start at $75,000. They have room to deal consignment or not. Get the PPI before you pay for the car. Also, get the phone number of the consignor and ask about the car. Ken

FYI an aston dealer can inspect the car at any time and slap a one year CPO warranty on the thing... sounds like salesman BS to me, salesmen definitely don't have attention to detail that most of us do, one I bought certainly has its cosmetic issues that I have had to deal with, but it was priced accordingly

as for the price, I don't know, is it a manual? Big difference in pricing between automatics and manual DB9's

I paid just a bit more than that in 2015 to add an additional year to my warranty. Two full years was less $5K. I didn't know you could get an AML warranty on a non-CPO or is this different warranty?

Regards,

They charge for an inspection, long as its at an AM dealer and less than 10 year old car, if it passes they will offer you an AML warranty

Nice looking car. $5k seems pretty high to me for a 1 year warranty. $4500 for 2 years seems more in the ballpark of what I'd expect.

Is it missing all of the dealer inspection stamps in the owners manual or just the stamp from the latest year?
