run, don't walk away from that mess! Sounds like it was in a minor accident from where the curbing and panel damage is

TPMS will cost you about a grand for them to replace and calibrate a new one (I know from mine) Thankfully, I didn't have to pay for it...

I just had the timing cover leak fixed on a 2015 Vantage GT under warranty - the cost seems in line with what I would have been charged.

It did have a minor accident.... I was listed on carfax as a "very minor incident" which is usually a dent or scratch by their own words. They are obviously being very critical of the car, as I have asked the to do so and would like to make money on the repairs.

I see a TPMS bypass on Redpants so I assume that can be skipped but they are looking into it. The dealer as of now is saying they will take care of the timing cover gasket, repaint the hood and fenders wherever necessary, do the proper oil change and make sure the vehicle misfire corrections are set and tested. They are also looking into the TMPS for me. It a pretty high end dealership, this car prob being one of the cheaper cars on the lot but they seem to know their stuff and will take care of most of it though their own service dept.

The Aston dealer said themselves that the car was a pretty good example which is promising! None of these seem ridiculously major and has full service history from only Aston dealers minus the bogus oil change...

Not trying to stand up for the car but I would like to hear some more opinions as well. Thanks for all of your helps everyone!

So this is a VERY common problem it seems! Is there a way to keep an eye on it or when you see oil on the ground then you are in big trouble?

If they can meet me on getting this repaired plus what they have also agreed upon I think It might be pretty well sorted by the time I take possession....

Only other thing you gotta worry about is the clutch, that is a costly repair not covered by warranty as it is a wear item, see if you can get any info on that.

This all depends on your level perfection that you need. I would say, start with a car that is has perfect as it can be. I woul not expect this car with any flaws. This is a big purchase, make sure this the car that you want. Don't settle!
Good luck.

I will counterpoint most of the views presented here. I see this car as a potential to enter the Aston Martin ownership world at potentially a great deal. That is if the price is reflective of the history and present condition. It is a lower mileage car that appears to be in rather good condition. As is, I see the car needing to be significantly discounted. If they will come down some and still fix the issues that are present then I feel it could be a great deal.

The main one for me would be the timing cover gasket leak issue.

I perform all my own maintenance so that $2k service estimate is entirely too high. That is why they are offering to perform all of that in house. The most expensive part is the fluids.

Wheels can be repaired vs. replacing them.

The front splitter is easy to replace and can be purchased from several vendors for less than $200.

Cluster cover leather is a common issue. That can be repaired if not shrunken too much or recovered or replaced. It is held in with clips so an easy change. Rich made a video about swapping it.

The misfire correction can be reset using a driving cycle. Search the forums for that.

I am going to disable the TPMS on my car shortly when I swap to new wheels. I check my tire pressures as part of my "pre-flight" before every drive. My car is in rotation with the other toys so it is driven 2-3 times a month or so; about 1500 miles a year.

Ultimately it is up to you if you can make a deal you are willing to live with. Carfax has ruined the used car market in my mind. If a car has a minor tap, that should not incredibly devalue it if the repair was performed correctly. I am proving with my current project that paintwork can be done as well, or even better than, what the factory puts out. If damage is repaired using factory parts as well then I do not see any issues.

Appreciate the opinion sall.

Heard back from the dealer and they said this "The car is here and we spoke with mechanic from Aston Martin store as well. It is possible that oil leak is from overfill. Will drain it and clean it. Should have some answers by tomorrow".

Emailed the mechanic to see to see if this was true. Would never claim they are liars but it's hard to trust people these days as well.

I would keep looking. Anything in the 40's you expect there to be something, but with some careful shopping I'm certain you can find a car with far less issues and comparable mileage for similar money.

I know nothing of this car, just as an example, many 07's are falling into the 40k range now

I put an offer in on the car which was accepted and wanted to do my due diligence?

Like the colour, those wheels look familiar I feel like I have seen that car before.

Can supply this for less than half that price.

Can probably be refinished for a few hundred.

That's a crazy price for an annual. I could fly a guy in and do an annual for you for less than that, including the flights & hotel. What oil was put into it? If it is a good quality synthetic I would probably not be that worried.

Fairly common, send me the VIN and I'll get you a quote on that part.

Not that hard to resolve or just fit delete jumpers if you don't care

You can set the misfire corrections yourself by performing a coast down-procedure a handful of times, maybe take half an hour of your time.

This is a different kettle of fish, but an indy should be able to do it for half that cost.

There's obviously a few things here that are cause for concern but would cost nowhere near what's been quoted to fix them. Depends what you're looking for. Not everyone wants or can afford a 100% perfect car. I'd say this is a $35,000 car, with the main issues being the timing cover, the tires and the kerb damage. The rest are relatively minor things that are easy and inexpensive to fix, if you can live with a couple scratches.

It's not an annual, it's a major, 4 year. My 6 year was $2000, and of course they don't just change out all the fluids and filters but do a comprehensive diagnosis of all the cars systems, 2 full pages. Not that it's not expensive to have a real dealer do the service, but some of us prefer to have real dealers do the service. If you don't have one within easy driving distance that's another deal entirely.

Door struts? Jack up the corner, remove the wheel, remove the liner to get access to the mounting point, change out the strut, then put everything back together? Times 2, in 5 minutes? Impressive!

If it was an indi that had an ex master AM tech. I wouldn't want anybody taking apart the whole front of the engine to get the cover off and resealed that hadn't done the job many times already.

I believe there is added value in having an AM dealer service department doing the work. I know it mattered alot to me when I was searching for a car. Not that I plan on selling my car anytime in the next 100,000 miles, but some things are just worth paying a little more for because of the peace of mind that it was done right. I know every DIYer on the board would think I'm crazy, or stupid, and they might be right on both

Now screwing on a new splitter sourced on ebay for $100 last time I looked, that I'd do myself.
