How do I remove the front ball joints on the shift cables?

Aston Martin Vantage 2007.
I would like to disconnect the front ball joints on the shift cables. inside the car where connected to the shifter mechanism. Is there a locking function that needs to be released?

They are on tight, pry them off from both sides at the same time using a trim tool something V shaped to get under the joint. There is no special tab or clip to release.
