How does CPO or extended warranty work?

The car I’m close to finalizing is a Vantage and it has warranty until Feb 2019. Aston says the warranty doesn’t carry to me because the owner sold the car to a non AM dealer. I thought extended warranty follows the car? Or even if it doesn’t follow the car, can previous owner transfer warranty to me? I don’t know why warranty would die once traded in to dealer?

Most extended warranties have an exclusion in place that if a car is sold to a dealership that isn't from the marquee, the warranty ceases to apply.

For example, Porsche does the exact same thing.

So if he were to have sold the car back to an AM dealer, and I buy the car, then I would have the remaining warranty? Or would he still have to transfer it to me?

Nope, only private party to private party transaction. The previous owner can also request a refund of unused warranty when the car is acquired at an AM franchise. Look on the bright side, it's a V8 Vantage what could go wrong?
