Extended Warranty Price on 2012 DB9
Extended Warranty Price on 2012 DB9
Hi,
My AM is a 2012 Virage (upgraded DB9), which has 46K miles on it. Its current extended warranty will expire in 6 months, so I am considering to purchase another two years. Since the car is 2012 model year, it would be the last time. The car just finished its annual service in my local dealer, the dealer quoted me 15% off on the standard price $9270, coming to $7880 plus tax (damn tax), and also waived the inspection fee because the service was just serviced. Is it a reasonable price? I searched the forum, found the price range $5k~$7K. How much room I can have to negotiate with the dealer?
BTW, my last repair claim cost around $6K on the warranty (replaced upper front arm, not sure how rare it is), so I think the warranty is necessary, at least I can sleep well in two years. What is your experience?

I would advise the warranty. I own a 2012 V12 Vantage. In October 2018 a valve spring went. Under the warranty, my dealer replaced with brand new engine, new clutch, new catalytic converters, wheel alignment, coolant flush, AC recharge. and other stuff. Although this was a freak occurrence...you never know.
My warranty cost last year was $4700 thru Miller Motors in Greenwich. Great service.
Thanks,
JH

Is $4700 for one year or two year warranty?
Did SA have an idea what caused the damage?
MMC is great. Wonderful reputation.

Diagnosis confirmed a bent valve spring on one of the cylinders. I was told a freak occurrence due to a catalytic converter malfunction. Miller/Aston chose to replace the engine rather than risk repair to valve/engine and have subsequent issue. I had about 36000 miles on the car at that time... currently have about 47000.

In the latest issue of Vantage Magazine (just out a few days ago) they have a section on used V8 Vantages, and in that article mention that a bad Catalytic Converter in the V12's can damage the engine, but not so much in the V8's!
One question: my car has been inspected by a local dealer. Can I use the inspection report to purchase extended warranty in any other dealers, or must I bring the car to do another inspection in the dealer I want to buy warranty?
Yes, I know. I have warranty now, and the local dealer is an Aston Martin dealer. Actually I called several other dealers, some insisted they must inspect the car themselves, some are OK with my local dealer's inspection report. I can save hundreds of dollars from other dealers, but not sure whether my local dealer will be mad on me in future, after all I need to service my car there...
Like anything, the dealer makes $$ on the ESC ask for a discount and price matching against another dealer within a reasonable distance to travel for service. Most should do a minimum of 10%.
Yikes! The extended warranty excludes oil leaks. On my 2015 GT I had a transaxle leak and a leak on the front gasket - the warranty saved me $8000 - and would not have been covered if the extended warranty was after year 6? The continuous pop-up screen on my 2017 V12S which has been serviced 3 times (finally replaced) would not be covered. Aston really needs to get their act together and offer coverage competitive with others. I'll extend my warranty to 5 years, but after that it does not seem worth it unless the car has a questionable past. My first V12S (a deceptive sale on Aston's part) was tracked. After Aston traded it and sold that car to another, it's been in the shop 11 months with things like a new engine, new computers, windshield, both headlights, new shifter paddles, two new clutches (under warranty), and much more. The next V12S (Aston replaced) was a local owned non-tracked car - zero issues. My current V12S essentially I'm the first owner (I paid a premium for that), so far a new entertainment screen system, two new tail lights and nothing else. I'd agree with no warranty on a used older Vantage, not worth it. I talked to a Chevy rep on extended warranty on the C8 Corvette (I'm on the list), no annual inspections, and he thought an extended warranty would be available to 80,000 miles but was not sure.
