Okay, I've an admission to make. My car is not QUITE the color I wanted. When ordering my car I selected the Aston "Carbon Black". For some reason, I believed this was the same color as the BMW Carbon Black, which as a substantially more amount of "blue in the". This was a mistake that could have been avoided by simply having Aston Martin send me a paint sample prior to building the car. I'll put this one on the selling dealer, but no matter. What's done is done.

So how do we fix this. Simple, we repaint the car!

My question to board members. Granted, this may vary be region, but what's the cost for a full paint job on an Aston? I know, I know, I could simply ask a body shop, but it's late and I'm curious.

Thanks in advance.

I had two Porsche 928's repainted, but that was 15 years ago for $6K - both were partially torn down to paint everywhere - both originally black, one painted Ferrari Yellow, the other the same orange as a BMW Mini

$6k would be an absolute screaming bargain to repaint door jams, under hood, engine bay, hatch. To match the finish quality of Aston's factory there will also be hours of wet sanding. I doubt you get away for less than $15k but probably more like $20k. Assuming quality 3 stage paint. Then you've got a bit of diminished value that goes along with a repainted car, especially one that doesn't match the paint code.

A total repaint would put be around 20K for an Aston or more, no?

I used Vescio's in Rogers, MN - they do incredible work and are reasonably priced considering... the price was a while ago, I'm assuming a bit more today. The orange 928 was extensive body work (the gills had rear view cameras, all seams in the body vanished, electric opening doors, the rear fenders gently flared (about 4" wider in the rear) requiring reshaping the rear without being obvious) and custom work on the hood with a lexan clear top to showcase the chrome 383 Chevy engine, and the Mustang GT fuel door - I think everything was something like $25K. The suspension, electronics, engine, etc. was done elsewhere and not cheap. The 1982 yellow 928 was 100% stock with the exception of the paint, newer wheels, and the slight engine work as shown - we had less than $20K total in that car.

To get it done right, you would want all of the glass and trim, the fenders, the doors, the hood, the bumper covers, the door handles, etc. removed. Possibly even remove the engine. Once the glass and and doors are removed, you now have the worry about interior damage. Which makes for a very expensive paint job. Not to mention the hit the value of your car would take if you changed the color. If you are that unhappy with the color, you would be better off selling it and ordering another car.

Nice! Mine was $10k 30 years ago, strip original paint, finish engine bay, door jams, wet sand until completely smooth. Done in Mound, coincidentally.

sell your car and reorder in the new color, presuming it can still be ordered...

Thanks for the responses. Doesn't sound practical. Looks like, I'd be better off just selling the car. Well, it not the end of the world so I'll just keep it. I'm not ordering a new Aston, so that they can bring out a cheaper fully loaded version (Vantage GT) while my car is sitting on the production line. No thanks! Once bitten, twice shy!

Nothing wrong with a good wrap! I've seen some shops do an incredible job, door jams, opened trunk area, and other random odd places. Unless you opened the hood you couldn't tell.

lol, I never said anything was wrong with wraps. Remember that saying about opinions and A-hoes?

Carry on, my friend. I'm going to find that post with the hideous Vantage V8 Turbo wrapped in suede, and you can let me know what you think.

Perhaps you can add some AMR stripes, contrasting trim and lipstick, or homage racing livery instead of a total repaint?

Nice thought but I like the subtle approach. I did think about some of that stuff but it tends to give the car a "racer" appearance, IMHO, of course.

That's the whole point of such embellishments.
