CTEK MXS 5.0 and cigarette socket plug

My 2010 v8v's stock ctek charger that came with the car (4g43-10c650-db) conked out , tand I cant figure what went wrong with it. There are two fuses; one in the plug and another in the body of the unit both of which check out ok
I replaced it with a ctek mxs 5 and purchased the cig lighter adapter which has a red sleeve fitting over the plug. After some searching i found that leaving the sleeve on is for regular cig lighters and removing it makes it compatible with hella/din accessory sockets.
I am not clear what the type of cig socket is in this car; the hella/din or regular. I cant compare it to my old one as the plug broke. Any thoughts would be appreciated on troubleshooting the aston ctek and the plug type.

FWIW I pull off the red plug when I charge thru the plug in the boot area. never had a problem and always stays in place.

Hella socket is on BMW motorcycles. Cars are a normal power outlet. The red adapter gets stuck and falls off most of the time. If you have a new Ctek, throw out the AM one its not worth trying to fix. They overheat and the relay fails for cycling power output.

thanks for this. i charged it with the new ctek minus the red cap and it worked fine. I had been using the old aston badged ctek for the past two years without a problem. So i will toss it. not worth fixing
