Finally Got a V8 Vantage
The Vantage on the other hand is much more of an isolated experience. A lot of this, I feel is due to how relatively silent the cabin is compared to the busy, noisey interior of the Porsche. It's a much more relaxed environment as a whole, and the driving experience reflects that, I think. Many have expressed how the Vantage feels more like a GT kind of car, and I would agree with that.
The 997 is lowered with some mods, has PDK, and shifts quickly and seamlessly. The Vantage is 100% stock, has a manual 6spd, and rowing through the gears is a little slower... A little less efficient. The Porsche has a higher strung sounding exhaust note with the 9A1; the Vantage has that V8 burble with more rumble and less urgency. Viscerally speaking, it makes a big difference. It's pretty interesting how it all influences the senses now that I think about it.
Granted, these are just my seat of the pants observations. I'm not one to do track days or events so much; just a guy that likes to get out on the road with fun toys. But living with both, it's like having Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the garage; two very different personalities, both suited for different moods. I should probably also add that I specifically wanted a base 997.2 with as few of options as possible. So, take my rambling with a grain of salt... Not all 997.2s may be as unrefined as I might make it seem.
And just a quick mention on design. One thing that both cars have in common from an aesthetics standpoint is their timeless design. Both are over a decade old... And they still look great. I have a feeling that in another 10 - 20 - 40+ years, they will stand the test of time. Yeah, I might be a little biased... But I don't see either car looking very dated anytime soon

Cheers,
Randy
