Not so bad for an old car :-) Took me about 1.5 days to install, having done some other cars (Maserati QPV, Mercedes W221) before.
I'm actually thinking of offering this as an installation service in Germany...
I used the NavTool system. Good hardware ($550), lousy support (2 word emails, lots of trial and error). Not really much integration with the Aston head unit, you get an infrared controller that attaches to the steering wheel, which looks a bit goofy but has the advantage of good usability. I hear Naviks has one that uses the Aston's joystick instead but is $850 and from wha I can tell in their video, each joystick movement triggers both a CarPlay action and one in the Aston system (totally unrelated).
I did this to my 11 V8S earlier this year. Similar set up as aston installations with Navik with a dial selecter. Love it. Would do it over again.
Did you do the install yourself, or did you take it somewhere? I'm thinking of doing this in my '15 Vantage but want to see if it's something I can manage or if I'll have to pay someone to do for me. Also, in regards to what was mentioned above, with the Naviks kit, when you use the joystick to control Carplay, does it trigger any unrelated actions in the AM system? Thanks!
I got it installed at a shop. I'm not the most technical person so I couldn't tell you the difficulty of the install.
The Carplay and the normal AM system run simultaneously but separately. They can be toggled back and forth using a button that I've placed directly beside the joystick. The joystick exclusively controls Carplay. So to answer your question they do not trigger unrelated actions.
The moment I enter my car, I immediately plug in my phone and toggle to carplay leaving the normal AM system on the boot up screen.
