Battery Removal with Aftermarket Amp?

Hey everyone, figured I would try here before really pulling on things to see what comes off.

When I purchased the car, the previous owner installed an amp. Most people can get to their mid-shelf by pulling a tab and lifting it up. I do not have one of those. Does anyone with this setup or would know how to access the battery? TIA

I would definitely try a plastic 90* trim tool to insert at an outside edge of tray and lift upwards. They couldn't have changed too much of the design.

IIRC, i needed to remove that aluminum trim piece, right behind the seats that spans the width of the car to get to the battery. i'd try removing that first. i think there are a few phillips head screws and one inexplicable 10mm hex bolt that hold it on.

it should be noted that i'm often wrong....

I will try that, but I believe that most peoples mid shelf is wider than mine since the amp surround cover is about 2 inches tick. But doesnt hurt to try. Thanks for the tip.

Initially, I tried figuring out a way to remove that aluminum bar, however, I believe you need to remove the shelf before getting accesst to the 10mm bolts and I cant seem to find a way to lift that shelf up.

Since it didn't budge I would try a magnet around the edges of the shelf to find metal fixings. Stereo guys like to use drywall screws on panels. That may not be the original parcel shelf? Could be MDF covered in carpeting to support that amplifier mount.

I will try that and report back! Currently in the middle of performing 7-year maintenance on the car all in one day....ugh I'm in pain. Thanks for the ideas!

I think the trim around the amp should come off first, maybe insert a plastic removal tool and go around to see if it comes off.... Good luck

It's no worries, I'm looking for any kind of ideas at this point. The battery is strong, but Id like to get access to it before it really becomes a problem. The only bad thing about inheriting a mod from someone. Thanks!

That is what I am thinking as the amp surround is pretty thick and probably held in by dowels? Thanks for the ideas!

Well finally got around to messing around with it. You sir are correct and a plastic trim tool did the trick. (throwing you some rep points). Surround gently comes off and then the mid-shelf can come out.

That's the good news. Now I have access to my battery in case I needed to replace it one day.

Bad news. I don't seem to have the tow hook that everyone has in their mid-shelf compartment. There is a bunch of electronic boxes where I think it should be, probably for the amp and sub.

Do you know where to get one OEM or recommend an aftermarket? I've searched and it actually seems hard to find. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Glad you had success, I think that the tow hook has a very different tread then other cars I own but let me check as I have a spare Jaguar tow hook as soon as I have a chance I will try it on the Aston Martin to see if it is the same

Sorry the Jag is a lot bigger thread then the Aston Martin...

Try to contact Rich at redpants.lol and see if his is for sale as he replaced the front armature of his car for a GT4 and had to go for a strap tow hook. Maybe he doesn't need his original tow hook for his 2006... it is worth asking
