Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Flat Fix on Road

Since these arent runflats, do you carry a compressor and slime? Whats the recommendation besides AAA, which I have, but not so helpful in no man’s land.

But check the dates on your repair kit, they expire after a few years, so you may need to get something newer

Is there a good source for the compressor/repair kits?

You can find the same kit for Volvo and, I believe, Mercedes Benz for a lot less than if you go looking for an Aston Martin one...

I recently cancelled my AAA subscription because in the middle of the day in a big city, their ETA was 3hrs. I could have had a tow truck in 5mins if I called basically anyone else. Ended up jerry-rigging a fix to get me home. I wasn't waiting 3hrs! Switched to Hagerty's roadside program. Lets see how that goes.

For a roadtrip, I've been considering switching to a square wheel setup and using a donut (space saver) spare from a Ford Mustang or Hyundai Genesis. I'm not going to rely on some asthmatic tire pump and glue.

instead of a square wheel setup i might consider getting the smallest wheel/tire spare that would fit and live with reducing my speed to the nearest tire shop. for years cars had mini spares and i didn't hear any outcry WRT their use.

i think there are some deflated spare tire options too. might be worthwhile looking in to.

The reason for the square setup is to ensure you have consistent replacement sizes all round. The rear end has a limited slip differential, you don't want to be using a spare that is more than 1/4inch overall diameter off on the same axle. This will cause the clutches to heat up and wear out very quickly. Even if you did 55mph for 20mins with the mismatched size, thats like driving in a tight circle for 20mins at 55mph. Thats very hard on an LSD.

255/40/19 square should match up nicely with 165/70/18 donut from a Ford Explorer. Might need a spacer to clear brakes.

What's the point of the space saver tire? Even if you use it, are you going to leave the punctured tire/wheel on the side of the road? Cause that ain't fitting in a V8V or DB9 trunk......

Its a relative problem. If you're 100 miles away from civilization and no one is coming for you any time soon, ditch the full size wheel and come back for it if you can. If you're just 20mins out of town, then maybe just call roadside assistance.

I hit a rock in King's Canyon and took out the front right rim. Literally cracked the rim. Tires these days are way too thin! If I didn't have a real spare, it would have been an utter disaster. In that heat, stranded for hours, no thank you. I have no problem ditching the full size wheel in these conditions.
