Best leather cleaner / restorer - DB7 Vantage
Best leather cleaner / restorer - DB7 Vantage
Hi,
Collected the car this week and it's great.
Dark blue leather seats. Slight creases/ cracking on the driver's seat (barely noticeable). What's the best product to nourish and mask that please - balm or other and what make (not confident enough to start sanding and filling with a leather repair kit yet and it might not actually need that extent anyway)?
i believe it's Bridge of Weir leather in these cars...
Thanks

My local AM-Lotus dealer uses Griot's leather product (cleans and preserves) on their customer cars which include historic Aston's. Connolly's is popular, but hard to apply. Lexol is a classic and beloved. I have used all three, but stick with Griot's due to ease of use and dealer recommendation.
Thanks for the replies.
The pacific blue (dark/ navy blue) is a discontinued AM leather colour. It was made by Bridge of Weir in Scotland who have confirmed they did the leather for AMs from 2000 and that the leather was coated with a protective treatment meaning it’s not absorbent leather now.
Been recommended to try furniture clinic UK.
Sent them images of the affected areas. They advised that if the leather was protective coated it won’t be absorbent and therefore their coloured balm won’t work for this.
Furniture clinic advised, based on the images, to send them a swatch/ sample of the leather. Sent them a small part of the rear seat back. They are colour matching from that. They are sending:
250ml alcohol cleaner £8.29 +VAT
250 colour matched dye £27.46 + VAT
They say just alcohol wipe the affected area then apply the dye, which contains a sealant, by means of supplied sponge applicator. Will post further after it arrives and have tried it.

You may want to try Leatherique products. I succesfully fully restored old cracked leather seats in a 64 RR SC III that looked stunning when finished. I no longer use the connolly products and have revitalised my DB7 seats as well as my leather couch at home!
Alcohol wipe and I think acrylic based color will make it basically good as new if it's a light crack or wear spot. I was funemployed and bored for a while and fixed all the wear spots in the leather on my V8 Vantage as well as a really beat up Infiniti. Don't put any leather conditioner on, they're typically a little bit of vitamin E oil in water, and the oil will just have to be scrubbed off with alcohol again for anything to stick to exposed leather. Be gentle with the alcohol as it can strip the existing outer layer off. Dab a narrow area around the crack and then apply the color to the whole area you cleaned, then you can wipe off the excess with more dilute alcohol. I actually mixed my own color with acrylic paint after I discovered leather filler is basically just PVA, got a perfect match on my orange (red fox) leather.
Deep cracks and tears are extremely difficult to repair in my experience. In addition to PVA leather filler I tried silicone and contact cement as filler material, and none of them are the same stiffness as leather, so best to fill the light cracks before they get worse.
