Every year about this time I newly awaken to the absolute joy of driving an Aston Martin on a beautiful day.
I'm sorry, but I'm guessing you can tolerate these ravings if you read this forum. My wife just doesn't get it (and even many other guys don't seem to understand) but when you press that Start button and suddenly get transformed from an ordinary man to some archetypal hero in the world's most gorgeous winged chariot, there is just nothing better in this world. No, not even that...
It was sunny and 65 degrees today, and with the top down and 80s classic rock on the radio and no pressing agenda, I took my '06 DB9 Volante for a 35-mile suburban and rural cruise. The thing about Aston Martins that's different than with other cars is that they make other people happy, too. I don't see or sense jealousy or resentment, and people wave and smile and try to get close. Even when you leave a traffic light behind two other cars, cut left, pass, and claim first place in the queue to the soundtrack of King Kong breaking wind, other drivers usually just grin.
Then, when I'm in the countryside and flowing through curves like the Aston is defining the road instead of following it, everything just feels sunny and right. It's like one of those movie scenes where an epic story is unfolding to exactly the right piece of music.
Dang, I love this car. I've owned a lot of other vehicles, but nothing has ever put it all together like my DB9. Some people make fun of Power-Beauty-Soul, but whoever made the decision to program that into our start-up ritual knew exactly what they were talking about. And those who don't get it...well, I just feel sad for them. We are a privileged group, my friends.
So true! I just picked up my 2008 DB9 from winter storage and annual service. The feeling of a top down drive in 65 degree weather made me forget the pain of paying for new plugs and coils ....
There's nothing like the moment you start that V12 for the first time in the Spring!!!! I've only had a couple drives this season...one of them was 300+ miles and I can't wait to get in it again!!!
This is one of the reasons I live in Florida. Never have to put the toys away for the winter. I can remember living in northern Illinois and the crazy winters.

Flat roads in a grid pattern with traffic lights. Kill me now…please.

That is an awesome looking car!
Love the color.
Reminds me a little bit of the Solarbeam Yellow on the MB AMG GTR.
