Angry Prices Up at AM Dealer Service

Had an annual service done which includes swapping summer to winter wheels. They store the wheels at the dealership. They use to charge $150. That went up to $190. Now it's $400!!!

I called the dealership to find out if $400 is a mistake or why it's now double from April.

Dealership prices have been getting to be ridiculous. Local AM service department wants $6k for a windshield in an 07 V8 Vantage.

This sounds like a vicious circle to me. Higher prices —-> less work —-> higher prices

Maybe they should try lowering their rates.

Inflation, likely low work volume, and new shop manager. This is what you get?

I am confused. Is $400 the hourly rate or the entire service?

$400 was the entire charge to swap wheels. The swap was done during my annual where the wheels had to come off regardless. Basically $400 to move two sets of wheels around, one of which they store.

I recently bought 19" wheels and tires for my 2002 SLK32 and Tire Rack did not know how to install the wheels (they took a different size stud). The dealer of he wheels had me take the car to Imola in Plymouth, MN that services a lot of the exotics. The price to mount the rears (the fronts already mounted on the wheels by tire rack (typically $65 a set), and get the correct studs while returning the old wheels was $480.00. I typically take all my cars to Morries Aston Martin for service as they in the past have been very fair, however, I've found Feldmann Mercedes to be spectacular in servicing my recently acquired SLK32. Morries is under new management so hopefully they continue to have the fair service pricing of the past while providing first rate service. My Vantage needs nothing till spring - time will tell.
