How do you guys deal with your dealer?

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion of Service Really is? Is it me or when it comes to dealers service I find that there is a lack of communication on their end. Do you find yourself calling them to find out what's going on when your car is in for service? Or do you have a great service Advisor and he calls you to keep you up to speed on what's happening? I know my car isn't the only vehicle in for service, but is it that difficult to call the customer? Or do I have to much time on my hands How long do you wait before calling? If the car is in for 6 days, should they at least call you to give you a status report every 2 days or so?

Just wondering how you guys deal with the dealer

I've had the best of luck and great service from my advisor (Stead in Walnut Creek). The best advice I can give is to build a solid relationship with them. Understanding that you are not the only one in for service as you mentioned is key.

Using one dealer helps too.

In the past, a couple dozen Krispy Creams or some homemade chocolatechip cookies have gone along way. Just as I am sure sending a pizza or a six pack at the end of the day would as well. I appreciate their efforts and have taken an active interest in what they are doing.

I also don't pester them. I had my last Pcar in for several weeks at a time, several times and always, I was given a call when promised for the updates. They set my expectations and I try to keep mine reasonable and remember that they are human.

Kevin.,
You are not alone. Everytime I take my car in for service, its not ready when promise and they do not notified me of the progress and delay in the repair. I have learned to follow up w/ them and stay on top of the service being done
I make a service appointment for a reason; I like to have my car back by the weekend.
For the amount of money paid for these cars, service could be better.

I get better service from my Mercedes Service Dept; they are as busy as the Porsche Service Advisor. But he still have time to call and give me status on the repair.

I take my car to Pioneer Porsche in Carlsbad. Mike is the service guy - if he needed a lung I'd give it to him. I am always kept in the loop on how the car is progressing - I may not like what they tell me, but I never get any surprises. They treat my car like it was theirs and keep it clean.

Treat these guys with the respect that they deserve and they usually come through.

I always find a bottle of wine to the service manager at Christmas goes a long way !

I once left a case of beer in my BMW for the service team, never had to wait for service since!

Cheers

A lung is too much to give inorder to get good service. I like my car but not that much. LOL
Maybe next time I'll take the service guys to the strip club down the street for lunch!

I had documented my problems with a local dealer on another thread. Essentially my car had an engine replaced which I realize is a very big job, however, the communication by the dealer was so bad I was forced to call Porsche Customer Commitment in GA.

It wouldn't have been so bad if they had told me right off that the engine needed to be replaced. But they dicked around and when the decision was made no one ever called me. Then they kept promising that the car would be ready and every time I had to call them only to find that it wasn't going to be ready.

In the end that was my only complaint. Just give me a quick call to say that the car won't be ready, don't make promises and not follow up.

Almost three weeks later I got the car back and I will be ecstatic once the breakin period is over.

Unhappy Dealer

Kevin,
If you are talking about the dealer in Fresno, I know what you mean. They are terrible. So bad I wrote to PCNA about them! They had my car for over three weeks for a minor repair. They never called to update me at all. I had to call to check on things. I do not know how they stay in business. I prefer the dealership in Bakersfield, not much help for you. I have also had good expierences with Stead in Walnut Creek.
